The post holder will promote and support the health and wellbeing of all school-aged children, their families and the wider community.

The post holder will be expected to carry out assessments of needs with school-aged children, young people and their families. The post holder will also work on the implementation of planned programmes of care delegated by the School Nurse specialist practitioner.


Main duties of the job

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

* Contribute to the identification and protection of children at risk of abuse and act in accordance with the local Safeguarding Children's Board guidelines. To attend safeguarding and other meetings to improve the health outcomes of children and young people as directed by the School Nurse Specialist Practitioner and provide written reports.
* Assess and undertake selective health care interventions as directed by the School Nurse specialist practitioner, refer to other agencies/Health Care professionals as necessary.
* Provide professional support and advice to children, young people, their families and schools and liaise and refer in discussion with the School Nurse Specialist practitioner

SERVICE DELIVERY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Support delivery of the 5 -19 Healthy Child Programme (DoH 2009) and National Childhood Measurement programmeunder the direction of the School Nurse Specialist practitioner.
* Support the planning, assessment of need and delivery of the agreed provision of a school health service to each schoolunder the direction of the School Nurse Specialist practitioner.
* Work within the Nursing & Midwifery Council's (NMC) framework for practice. All community staff nurse should have knowledge and work in accordance with Trust policies and guidelines including clinical supervision.
* Actively promote uptake of al school nurse contacts, and public health interventions, screening and immunisations/vaccinations.

Qualifications

* Registered (NMC) Nurse.


Experience

* Experience of team working.
* Experience of working with children and young people.
* Experience of working with SystmOne or other electronic clinical system.
* Experience of community-based work.
* Experience of audit/evaluation.


Knowledge

* Awareness of Health Visiting and School nursing roles.


Skills

* Able to demonstrate a commitment to Trust values.
* Ability to work on own initiative and recognise role boundaries.
* Ability to prioritise work.
* Understands the Public Health role of the school nursing service.
* Excellent Communication skills both verbal and written.
* Understands the difference between primary, secondary and tertiary care.
* Knowledge / understanding of clinical Supervision.

£35,763 to £43,466 a yearper annum inclusive
