Speech and Language Therapist Advanced Practitioner - Band 7

The Speech and Language Therapy Service in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent provides assessment and treatment for adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties in community settings, including patients' own homes. We offer dysphagia, communication, and voice assessment and intervention, supported by strong leadership and compassionate management.


Job Summary

We are excited to offer a permanent opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist Advanced Practitioner. This full‑time role (37.5 hours per week) will allow you to make a real difference across the North Staffordshire and Stoke‑on‑Trent area, with a base in Bentilee. You will work with a diverse range of patients, contribute to service development and take a leading role in shaping the delivery of speech and language therapy within the community.


Main Duties of the Job

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced Speech and Language Therapist who is able to work independently and is committed to delivering excellent patient care. The post holder will provide specialist assessment, intervention and advice in the clinical areas of communication, dysphagia and voice.

You will be responsible for a defined population of service users across a variety of settings, including clinics, patients' homes and care homes. The role involves assessing complex needs and developing, implementing and evaluating appropriate care and support packages.

The successful candidate will manage a complex caseload and contribute to supervision, training and leadership within the team. They will also work with the leadership team on delegated management tasks and contribute to service development and improvement.

We are looking for someone who demonstrates initiative, creativity in problem solving and strong clinical competence. You should be happy to travel to see patients in locations that suit them best and engage effectively with patients and their families. The post holder will be expected to consistently demonstrate the values of the Partnership Trust.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
* Health and Care Professions Council Registered Speech and Language Therapist
* Post Graduate RCSLT accredited dysphagia course or equivalent
* Modules at Masters level that equates to at least half a Masters qualification
* Post qualification courses/training in area of specialism, attendance at relevant Clinical Excellence Networks
* Up to date field work/pre‑registration student training


Experience

* Significant experience in the clinical specialism including assessment and management of communication disorders and complex dysphagia
* Supporting service users, families and carers in dealing with the impact of communication/eating and drinking difficulties
* Working in a multidisciplinary team
* Experience of negotiation and conflict management and in clinical situations; presentation skills
* Experience of implementing best practice and ability to carry out clinical audit
* Experience of training and development of other Speech and Language Therapists / support staff
