About the Role
We are seeking a qualified Trading Standards Officer to join our team. You will be responsible for enforcing legislation, protecting consumers, and supporting businesses by ensuring fair trading practices. This role requires a strong understanding of trading standards law and the ability to carry out inspections, investigations, and enforcement action where necessary.
Key Responsibilities
* Enforce consumer protection, licensing, and fair trading legislation.
* Carry out inspections of businesses to ensure compliance with regulations.
* Investigate complaints, gather evidence, and take enforcement action where required.
* Provide advice and guidance to businesses and the public on trading standards matters.
* Prepare reports, case files, and present evidence in court when necessary.
* Work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
Requirements
Essential:
* Must be a qualified Trading Standards Officer (DTS, DCATS, or equivalent).
* Strong knowledge of trading standards legislation and enforcement procedures.
* Experience in inspections, investigations, and legal proceedings.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
Desirable:
* Experience working within a local authority or regulatory enforcement environment.
* Knowledge of emerging issues in trading standards, such as e-commerce and product safety.
* Flexibility to work additional hours when required.
