Dimensions of Job

Cross‑site working at Wexham Park Hospital, Heatherwood and Slough Hospitals, covering bank shifts across a 7‑day working pattern as and when required.


Job Overview

Work as a bank clinical sonographer delivering a high‑quality ultrasound service.


Purpose of Job

* Perform a range of non‑obstetric ultrasound examinations (general, gynae, MSK)
* Produce high‑quality ultrasound reports under the delegation of the lead radiologist for Ultrasound and in accordance with accepted practice and protocols within the Obstetrics Department
* Overall responsible for contributing to providing a high‑quality and efficient ultrasound service
* Maintains the high standards of the department by contributing to individual and team objectives


Service Delivery and Quality

* Maintain good communication and relationships with stakeholders, including patients and other users of the service
* Able to communicate results and findings
* Provide relevant information to ensure that verbal consent is gained from patients or carers before undertaking any ultrasound procedure


Personnel & Training

* Responsible for maintaining CPD and own level of competence


Quality

* Perform all ultrasound procedures to a high professional standard in accordance with the departmental protocols
* Undertake training and study, as necessary, to ensure that a high level of personal professional knowledge and expertise is achieved and maintained
* Actively encourage feedback as part of the departmental quality initiative


Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

* Ability to plan and organise as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Be able to reflect on and learn from relevant research evidence, policies and legislation and apply across professional and organisational boundaries
* Must be able to exercise professional self‑regulation
* Must be able to independently co‑ordinate, manage and monitor own work lists
* Excellent communication skills – must be able to receive and negotiate complex, sensitive and/or contentious information
* Share complex information with staff and patients in a sensitive manner
* Team player – understanding team dynamics
* Be able to work under pressure
* Ability to build effective working relationships


Sonography Qualifications

* Essential criteria: Experienced sonographer in NHS
* Desirable criteria: Experience in ultrasound scanning more than 1 year


Qualifications

* Essential criteria: MSc Medical ultrasound
* PG cert or Dip Medical ultrasound
* Desirable criteria: MSc Medical ultrasound
* PG cert or Dip Medical ultrasound


Personal Characteristics

* Essential criteria: Team player
* Practical Ultrasound Training
* NHS Ultrasound scanning experience
* Desirable criteria: Experience undertaking audit
* Teaching students
