People Solutions are currently recruiting for a Machinist Charge Hand to join our well-established client based in Tipton on a full-time, permanent basis. The Machinist Charge Hand is a key position within the manufacturing organisation and will be responsible for the planning, execution, performance, and continuous improvement of their cell.
Hours of Work
37 hours per week, plus overtime. Includes shift work with a 7.5% rotation shift allowance. 6am – 2pm and 2pm – 10pm
Salary
£42,000–£44,200 per year, plus 7.5% shift allowance (£45,150–£47,515 total).

Day to Day Duties
Report to the shift supervisor and manage operational activities within the machining department.
Lead and supervise machine operators, ensuring effective organisation of the department to maximise productivity.
Ensure adherence to procedures and instructions to meet production plans and maintain product standards.
Attend daily planning meetings and communicate plans to the team.
Manage operatives' time, including shift arrangements, holidays, absences, overtime, and timesheets.
Monitor and improve cell utilisation and productivity.
Support continuous improvement initiatives, targeting at least one documented improvement per week.
Participate in production control meetings and report on cell performance, implementing recovery plans where necessary.
Manage delegated spend for consumables and support capital purchase activity.
Deliver team briefings and ensure compliance with TPM and other metrics on cell boards.
Perform all machinist duties as required (approximately 80% of role).
Essential Skills
Highly capable machinist with demonstrable ability to lead a team.
Strong leadership and influence to achieve results.
Ability to objectively challenge team and stakeholders to maintain high standards.
Experience managing teams at a supervisory level desirable.
Desirable Skills
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a bespoke, high-integrity manufacturing environment.
Experience in continuous improvement initiatives.
Understanding of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and production metrics.
Training
On-the-job training for leadership and continuous improvement initiatives.
Support with TPM procedures and reporting.
