A well-established multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking a skilled Principal Ecologist to mentor and support an existing team in Scotland. Thepany operates across diverse sectors, including water, renewables, infrastructure, power and utilities, ports and harbours, as well as regulatory andernmental projects.
Your new role
1. Collaborate with senior leadership to expand the business across the UK
2. Lead and mentor consultants to ensure timely, high-quality reporting
3. Overseeing consultancy outputs, reviewing reports and providing constructive feedback
4. Contribute to tender preparation, including proposals, budgeting, and scope development
5. Manage projects with multidisciplinary teams across various locations
6. Develop and maintain strong client relationships and stakeholder management
7. Represent the consultancy at networking events, conferences, and business development meetings
8. Identify and secure new opportunities while maintaining relationships with existing clients
What you'll need to succeed
Essential:
9. Strong knowledge of EU and UK legislation related to ecology, environmental issues, and Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA)
10. Demonstrable project experience, particularly within Scotland and preferably England
11. Experience leading protected species surveys and mitigation projects
12. Proven ability to support junior ecologists in their professional development
13. Ability to expand and manage a terrestrial ecology portfolio in a consultancy setting
14. Expertise in delivering ecological advice and innovative mitigation solutions
Desirable:
15. Track record of securing new business opportunities and preparing bids/tenders
16. Full CIEEM membership or eligibility
17. Holding at least one protected species licence or qualification as an experienced botanist (FISC Level 4+)
18. Experience leading and motivating a team
