The Role
As a Electronic Warfare Scientist / Engineer, you will play a key role in advancing radar and electronic warfare technologies through innovative research, analysis and development.
You will join a team of around forty scientists and engineers. Day-to-day, you’ll carry out technical research, develop and test algorithms and models, work with real-world data, and collaborate closely with customers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver solutions that improve sensor and system performance
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Performing research and development activities across radar and electronic warfare projects
2. Developing and applying signal processing, machine learning and algorithmic solutions
3. Analysing data and interpreting results to support system performance and capability
4. Working with customers to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions
5. Contributing to innovation and continuous improvement within the team
Essential experience of the Electronic Warfare Scientist / Engineer:
6. Experience in scientific or engineering analysis and problem solving
7. In-depth understanding of electronic warfare / electronic surveillance concepts and fundamental principles (e.g. trilateration, time and frequency difference of arrival)
8. Experience authoring reports or technical deliverables on an engineering project
9. Experience developing algorithms using Python or MATLAB
10. Understanding of signal processing, data analysis or modelling techniques
11. Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary technical teams
12. Experience of mentoring junior team members
13. Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical findings
Desirable / helpful experience:
14. Previous experience of some of the following depending on particular specialism:
15. Applied use of machine learning / AI
16. Direction finding antenna
17. Radar backend processing and algorithm research
18. Controlled software development
19. Undertaking / running trials, trial data analysis and performance assessment
20. Working with defence customers and suppliers
Essential qualifications for the Electronic Warfare Scientist / Engineer:
21. Degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent professional qualification

This role is 37 hours per week based at Malvern. Hybrid working patterns are available. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites may be expected.
