Braemar Plc is a leading international shipbroker and provider of expert advice in shipping investment, chartering, risk management, and logistics services.
We’re currently seeking a Legal Counsel to join our in-house legal team in London on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a fast-paced, global business in a broad and commercially focused legal role. You’ll report to the Group Head of Legal and work closely with senior stakeholders across the Group to support business operations and help manage legal risk.
What you’ll be doing:
* Providing commercial, pragmatic and prompt legal support to the group across the globe to ensure that the key legal and contractual risks are considered and effectively mitigated and/or escalated.
* Providing legal guidance on a wide range of commercial areas such as commercial contracts, IP, data protection, lease agreements and confidentiality agreements.
* Working with the Compliance team to ensure Braemar’s regulated securities business continues to meet FCA and other regulatory requirements
* Advising on obligations and tactics in any contractual disputes or enforcement action.
* Advising the HR team advising on contentious employment matters, particularly in relation to post-termination restrictions.
* Reviewing IT and other service contracts to assist the Group IT Director and other stakeholders with group procurement.
* Providing legal assistance with any strategic developments, including M&A and joint ventures.
* Liaising with external legal advisers and other service providers, as required, to ensure the quality, efficiency and value of services.
What we’re looking for:
* Lawyer – qualified in England and Wales with a minimum of 4 years PQE.
* Experience working in a broad in-house role.
* Proven experience as a legal counsel in a fast-paced business environment working closely with C-suite and the business alike.
* Able to work autonomously on multiple and diverse matters at the same time.
* Strong commercial acumen and a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.
* Experience working in financial services or other FCA regulated business (preferably with a focus on per se professional / professional clients and commodities businesses).
* Experience working in a maritime or brokerage business would be desirable but not essential.
