Our client, a public sector organisation dedicated to community safety, is seeking Special Constables to join its policing team on a voluntary basis. Special Constables play a vital role in supporting frontline police officers, tackling crime, engaging with local communities, and helping to keep Nottinghamshire safe.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute your time, skills, and life experience to meaningful community service. Special Constables wear the same uniform, have the same powers as regular officers, and work side by side with them to respond to incidents, prevent crime, and support public safety.
Responsibilities
Special Constables carry out a wide variety of duties, including:
Public Safety & Community Engagement
* Patrol local areas to provide visibility, reassurance, and community engagement.
* Assist at the scene of accidents, fires, or public incidents, ensuring safety and calm.
* Provide security and crowd management at major public events.
* Undertake high-visibility patrols in crime hotspots.
* Engage with schools, businesses, and community groups to promote crime prevention and community safety.
* Support initiatives that reduce anti-social behaviour and improve neighbourhood security.
Operational Policing
* Confront anti-social behaviour and manage incidents linked to alcohol or public disorder.
* Enforce road safety laws and address traffic-related issues.
* Conduct house-to-house enquiries and support ongoing police investigations.
* Take part in planned police operations, including offender disruption and arrests.
Supporting the Justice System
* Present evidence in court when required, supporting prosecutions and convictions.
Requirements
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt to diverse audiences.
* Resilience, confidence, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
* Commitment to teamwork, integrity, and public service.
* Ability to attend and complete mandatory training sessions (delivered evenings and weekends).
* Must have resided in the UK for the past three years to meet vetting requirements.
Training
* Comprehensive training programme provided, covering law, policing powers, conflict management, and community engagement.
* Practical training includes patrol preparation, dealing with incidents, and operational procedures.
* Ongoing support and development opportunities once deployed.

Application Process
Applications are ongoing for cohorts commencing in 2025/26. Once eligibility is confirmed, candidates will be invited to complete the College of Policing’s national sift process.
