We are seeking an Academy Physiotherapist to provide vital pitch‑side medical cover for U9 to U16 matches and training sessions throughout the Academy season. The role is sessional and casual, working closely with the Lead Academy Physiotherapist and Head of Academy Performance. You will screen, monitor, assess, treat and rehabilitate injured players aged 8–16, and contribute to injury‑prevention strategies. We require a successful applicant to complete an enhanced DBS check and other essential background checks prior to starting.
Responsibilities
* Deliver pitch‑side medical cover for home and away Academy matches.
* Maintain clinical readiness by holding and renewing ITMMiF first‑aid qualifications and operating under Premier League, FA, CSP and HCPC standards.
* Diagnose, treat and manage injuries to a high clinical standard, providing immediate care and clear advice to players and parents.
* Plan, deliver and review rehabilitation programmes to optimise recovery and reduce recurrent injury.
* Collect and analyse health and injury data to support evidence‑led injury‑prevention strategies.
* Maintain accurate clinical records and report injuries to the Lead Academy Physiotherapist and full‑time staff.
* Liaise with players, parents and coaching staff, ensuring safeguarding of player welfare and alignment of return‑to‑play decisions.
* Engage in CPD and service development while adhering to child protection, health & safety and equal‑opportunity policies.
Qualifications
* BSc or MSc in Physiotherapy or Sports Therapy.
* Registered with the HCPC or equivalent and hold FA Level 4 ITMMiF or Level 5 ATMMiF.
* Experience in enhancing the physical development of young players, with a proven record in assessing, treating and rehabilitating injuries in athletes aged 8‑16.
* Strong manual‑handling and clinical‑reasoning skills.
* In‑depth knowledge of common pathologies in adolescent athletes and confidence in managing them safely.
* Proficient injury‑management skills, including screening, monitoring and rehabilitation.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary team.
* Flexible, proactive and capable of adapting to changing demands.
* Energetic and enthusiastic, serving as a role model and inspiring young athletes.
Position of Trust
As an individual in a position of trust role involving direct contact with children or vulnerable adults, you must uphold high standards of conduct to prevent abuse, including sexual, physical or emotional harm. The role requires regular safeguarding training and education from Club and FA – you must keep these up to date.
