RF Systems Test Engineer
Cambridge | £50,000–£65,000 + benefits | On-site most of the time
Still want to be solving new problems every week, not just repeating the same test plans?
This company designs complex RF systems for mission-critical defence and security applications. The products are sophisticated, the testing is demanding, and the work is varied. One week you’ll be calibrating systems in the lab, the next you’ll be in a chamber running EMC, vibration or shock tests, and after that you might be in the field validating how the kit performs in the real world.
It’s hands-on work — you’ll need to be based locally and happy to be in the lab or test chambers most of the time. But there’s freedom here too. The test team don’t just run scripts; they build their own proprietary tools, shape how testing is done, and are encouraged to find better ways of working.
The business has doubled in size and revenue in the last three years. With new investment and the backing of a global parent, benefits are improving (12% pension, bonuses, stock schemes). The engineering team will double again in the next three years, so there’s clear scope to step into a more senior role if you want that responsibility. If you don’t, you’ll still get the variety and growth that comes from new projects and new products.
What you’ll need:
* Solid RF testing background (telecoms, defence, or similar)
* Experience with antenna theory, EMC compliance, and certification/qualification
* Hands-on with RF test equipment
* Embedded Linux exposure or scripting (Python/C++) would be useful, but not essential
