Job Description

A warm, inclusive specialist school is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Autism Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). You’ll play a key role in helping pupils build confidence, develop communication skills, and engage positively in learning through personalised support.

About the Role

You will work as part of a skilled and supportive team to:

* Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and independence
* Support pupils with autism using structured routines, visual supports, sensory strategies and clear communication
* Provide one-to-one and small-group support throughout the day
* Support pupils with emotional regulation, social communication and transitions
* Help create a calm, predictable, and nurturing learning environment
* Work closely with teachers, therapists and specialist staff to ensure consistent support
* Encourage pupils to access learning at their own pace and celebrate their progress

About You

You would be a great fit if you:

* Have experience supporting children with autism or other SEN (desirable but not essential)
* Are patient, nurturing and calm in your approach
* Can work confidently with pupils who may have sensory needs, communication differences, or behaviours associated with autism
* Are able to follow structured routines and implement visual/communication supports
* Can work as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team
* Have a genuine passion for helping pupils feel understood, supported and successful
