UAV Operations & Logistics Technician
Location: London or Newcastle (Candidate Choice) Duration: 12-Month Initial Contract (with potential for extension) Rate: £16 per hour
The Opportunity
We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented UAV Operations Technician to join Wing, a leader in autonomous drone delivery. This is a unique hybrid role that combines technical aviation safety, ground-based robotics maintenance, and logistical operations. This is an initial 12-month contract with a strong outlook for extension as we grow our UK presence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical & Flight Operations
* Perform meticulous daily aircraft and flight-line checks, including pre-flight and post-flight inspections.
* Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all "nest" equipment and aircraft on-site.
* Detect and report any visible obstacles or hazards to the Pilot in Command (PIC).
* Formally report any unsafe or unusual occurrences to the Ground Operations Manager or Chief Pilot.
2. Ground Logistics & Inventory
* Perform Tier 1 Pick/Pack Services to ensure delivery accuracy.
* Manage and maintain local stock and inventory levels.
* Proactively replenish nest inventory through orders to prevent operational downtime.
3. Field Recovery & Vehicle Operation
* Operate a contractor-provided light vehicle (van) to recover aircraft that land outside the designated nest area.
* Coordinate recovery missions and navigate to specific GPS locations for asset retrieval.
Requirements
* Clean Driving Licence: A full UK driving licence is essential for aircraft recovery duties.
* Technical Aptitude: Experience with drone systems (DJI, Pixhawk, or similar) or complex technical hardware (ROVs, Avionics) is highly preferred.
* Operational Mindset: Willingness to perform physical tasks, including packing, inventory management, and field recovery in varying weather conditions.
* Compliance Focused: A disciplined approach to following strict safety protocols and reporting procedures.
