About the role
The UK Defence & Security Business Development Manager is responsible for driving strategic growth and shaping opportunity across the UK defence and national security ecosystem.
This role leads front‑end business development activity across:
* The Ministry of Defence (MoD)
* Defence delivery organisations and enabling bodies
* Parliamentary, policy, and defence advisory offices
* UK and international defence prime contractors
Acting as a senior representative of Dräger, the role focuses on early engagement, influence, and positioning, ensuring Dräger technologies are aligned to defence capability priorities, future requirements, and long‑term programmes. The post holder operates at a strategic level, influencing stakeholders well ahead of formal procurement activity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Defence & Security Stakeholder Engagement
* Establish and maintain senior‑level relationships across the MoD, defence organisations, and associated parliamentary and policy offices.
* Engage with defence capability teams, programme leads, requirement setters, and operational stakeholders.
* Build strong links with defence prime contractors, system integrators, and key industrial partners.
* Represent Dräger at defence, security, and parliamentary events, forums, working groups, and industry engagements.
* Act as a trusted subject‑matter interface between Dräger and the UK defence and security community.
2. Strategic Business Development
* Identify, shape, and develop new defence and security opportunities aligned to UK capability priorities and threat landscapes.
* Drive early engagement activity to influence requirements, solution design, and programme direction.
* Develop and execute a UK Defence & Security business development strategy, aligned to organisational objectives.
* Maintain visibility of future pipelines across land, maritime, air, joint, and security domains.
* Position Dräger solutions into long‑term programmes, platforms, and multi‑year initiatives.
3. Defence Industry & Prime Contractor Partnerships
* Build strategic relationships with defence prime contractors and tier‑one suppliers.
* Identify partnership and teaming opportunities across complex defence programmes.
* Position Dräger as a trusted technology contributor within prime‑led bids and consortiums.
* Support collaboration models that enhance long‑term presence within the defence supply chain.
4. Capability Alignment & Solution Development
* Understand defence operational requirements and translate them into relevant Dräger solution propositions.
* Work closely with internal technical, product, and regulatory teams to align solutions with UK defence standards.
* Support solution shaping to meet military, security, and platform‑specific constraints.
* Provide defence‑focused insight to inform product development and roadmap decisions.
5. Market Insight, Policy Awareness & Influence
* Monitor developments in defence policy, spending priorities, parliamentary direction, and security strategy.
* Track changes in defence procurement models, frameworks, and commercial approaches.
* Provide structured intelligence to support strategic planning and investment decisions.
* Act as an internal advocate for defence and security market requirements.
6. Tender & Framework Enablement
* Support defence bids, tenders, and framework activity by contributing early market intelligence and stakeholder insight.
* Ensure approaches align with defence procurement governance, compliance, and security requirements.
* Enable competitive positioning before formal procurement stages are reached.

The Draeger UK Government Segment is a small, mission‑driven team that operates with an entrepreneurial mindset, where ownership, accountability, and collaboration are non‑negotiable. Each member is empowered to take initiative, make decisions, and drive outcomes. Because the work is niche and generally the opportunities are high stakes, the team operates with frequent, direct interactions, ensuring knowledge flows quickly, decisions are made close to the work, and issues are surfaced and resolved early.

Education/Qualifications
Desirable:
* Military / Defence Prime Background
* Degree in Business, Public Policy, Defence Studies, or related field.
Essential
* Security clearance eligibility.
Related Experience
* Previous experience and understanding of complex government structures and long‑term resilience objectives.
* Strong understanding of government procurement processes and frameworks.
* Deep understanding of MoD Policies, defence procurement, and Defence Prime Contractors.
Skills, Special Competencies
* Ability to engage confidently with senior government officials, resilience leaders, and strategic partners.
* Professional presence and ability to represent Dreager at ministerial and senior stakeholder level.
* Ability to secure strategic partnerships and navigate complex decision‑making environments.
* Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, politically sensitive environment.
* Strategic thinker with a proactive approach.
* Strong communication and presentation skills.
* Ability to work independently and travel nationally
