Overview

Job Summary
28.5 Hours per week
(PLEASE NOTE AS THIS IS A PART TIME ROLE, WE ARE NOT ABLE TO OFFER SPONSORSHIP)

Working as a Senior Healthcare Support Worker in the Cardiac Unit, within the hospital setting, you will carry out assigned tasks involving direct patient care, while maintaining privacy and dignity of each patient. This will be done while demonstrating excellent care, compassion and communication, in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse/Midwife or Nursing Associate.


Responsibilities

* Admitting patients and preparing patients for procedures.
* Discharging patients once competent.
* Moving & Handling of patients to support independence.
* Infection Prevention and Control.
* Safeguarding of adults and children.
* Reporting Incidents.
* Assisting in Pre-Assessment Clinics.
* Undertaking blood and swabs clinics.
* Taking and recording vital signs or other parameters such as height/weight, capillary blood glucose/ketones collection and sampling and urine sample collection and sampling.
* Cannulating or blood collection, cannula removal, taking specimens/samples of any kind, simple dressings.
* ECGs or setting up cardiac monitoring.
* Supporting circulator nurse during procedures in Cardiac Catheter laboratories.
* TR band management.
* Stock control.
* Recovery of patients post conscious sedation.
* Hydration and Nutrition assistance.
* Assistance with comfort and hygiene care.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification

Essential

* Level 2 or equivalent English and Maths
* Recognised level 3 qualification
* 6-12 months experience as a Healthcare Support Worker in the NHS
* Understanding of the role of the Healthcare Support Worker in the hospital setting.
* Effective communication and IT skills
* Care Certificate achieved through the NHS
* Previous experience in similar setting
* Undertake ECG on patients skills

Desirable

* Venepuncture and cannulation skills
* TR band Management
* Ability to function in acute and emergent care situations
* Good delegation and escalation skills
* Supervision skills of junior staff

Required Criteria

Essential

* Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Demonstrate ability to work effectively as a member of a team and are aware of own limitations.
* Functional English and Maths skills

Desirable

* Good organisational skills
* Able to communicate effectively with patients, relatives and multi-disciplinary team
