Job Overview

The post holder will work within mental health psychological intervention services, providing high volume screening and assessment (in accordance with the Mental Health Measure Part 1 or Part 2, where appropriate). The post holder will autonomously manage own clinical caseload to provide low‑level psychological interventions to individuals and groups for common mental health conditions under clinical supervision and the appropriate governance framework. Low‑level interventions comprise or are informed by evidence‑based interventions developed from psychological theory and practice, such as standardised psychological therapies (CBT guided self‑help, behavioural activation, brief solution‑focused therapy, mindfulness, etc.). This may include face‑to‑face or telephone contacts, or contacts through other media for people with condition‑specific difficulties as described in Matrics Cymru and/or those suffering with dementia/ neurodevelopmental conditions. Develop group protocols under supervision, prepare materials, collate, analyse and report outcomes. The therapies are aimed at common mental health problems that impact on functioning and usually last up to 6 sessions or longer for group work. Some therapy will be delivered individually, but there may also be structured groups for specific problem areas, such as anxiety, depression, obsessive‑compulsive disorder, or emotional regulation.

Main duties of the job

* The post holder will assist the psychologist with evaluation of outcomes, piloting quality initiatives, improvement activities and other audit/evaluation related to service improvement required by management.
* Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered and clinical sessions carried out per week, in order to minimise waiting times and ensure that treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
* Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step‑up and step‑down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped‑care approach.
* Receive referrals, adhering to referral protocols, organising assessment, signposting to appropriate services and facilitating onward referral to specialist services where required.
* Undertake patient‑centred interviews which identify areas where the person wishes to see change and/or recovery.
* Screen for risk using UHB recognised procedure and discuss with supervisor/senior registered staff if risks are identified.
* Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as required, given patient consent or best interests assessment.
* Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.
* Assess and integrate issues surrounding work or unemployment, societal and familial factors into the overall therapy process.
