Summary
Building Physics Engineer / Sustainability Consultant required to join an established Building Physics & Building Performance Engineering team within a UK-based multidisciplinary engineering and sustainability consultancy with multiple offices nationwide.
This role focuses on building performance modelling, operational energy analysis, and sustainable design, supporting low-energy, low-carbon developments across multiple sectors.
The successful candidate will contribute to dynamic simulation modelling, overheating analysis, daylight assessments, and Net Zero Carbon strategies, working closely with architects, MEP engineers, and design teams from early-stage concept through to detailed design and delivery.
Key focus areas include IES modelling, Part L / Part O compliance, TM52 / TM59 assessments, BREEAM support, and operational energy modelling (TM54 / NABERS UK).
Key Responsibilities
Deliver dynamic thermal modelling (IES VE) to assess building energy performance, overheating risk, and operational efficiency
Complete building compliance and performance assessments, including:
Building Regulations Part L and Part O
CIBSE TM52, TM59 (overheating) and TM54 (operational energy)
EPC calculations and NABERS UK
Passive House (where applicable)
Undertake daylight and sunlight analysis using climate-based modelling tools
Support BREEAM certification through performance modelling and credit delivery
Contribute to Net Zero Carbon and energy strategies, aligned with UKGBC, LETI, RIBA 2030 and planning requirements
Act as a technical point of contact, coordinating with architects, MEP engineers, and wider design teams
Produce clear technical reports, models, and presentations for clients and stakeholders
Support planning submissions, client meetings, and design workshops
Manage and prioritise workload across multiple concurrent projects
Contribute to internal process improvement, including tools, workflows, and best practice
Collaborate with BIM teams to support coordinated project delivery

Requirements
Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Physics)
2-4 years’ experience in building physics or sustainability consultancy
Strong capability in IES VE and dynamic simulation modelling
Solid understanding of:
Building Regulations Part L and Part O
CIBSE TM52, TM59, TM54
BREEAM and NABERS UK
UK Net Zero Carbon frameworks
Experience in operational energy modelling and HVAC system analysis
Previous involvement in planning application support and design-stage modelling
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly
Ability to work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams
Desirable:
Rhino
Python or scripting experience
Revit or AutoCAD
Chartered status (or working towards) with CIBSE, IMechE, or equivalent
Must have the right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)
