We are currently looking to recruit two co‑opted governors to bring new skills, interests and ideas to our team. Our Governors bring unique skills and experience from the fields of management, finance, law and human resources and we are able to offer access to any training or support you would need to fulfil this role.
You do not need any specific qualifications to be a governor as full training will be given; you just need an interest in education and the ability to give some of your time. Governors are expected to attend at least one full meeting a term, and will ideally visit the school in between meetings to gain a greater understanding of the school, how it functions and progress towards goals.
This is an exciting time to be joining Oakwood. We have a new leadership team and have been embedding innovative approaches as well as continuing to build on our strong reputation for delivering an ambitious education to all our children, including supporting their wellbeing and creating a place where everyone can develop and thrive.
What are we looking for?
We currently have two vacancies for new co‑opted governors and would be delighted to hear from anyone who generally has:
 * an open and enquiring mind, with the confidence to ask questions and join in debate
 * the ability to work well with others
 * the appropriate skills and knowledge or enthusiasm to join the team.
The below skills and experience would be welcome, but are not essential, as support and/or training can be provided:
 * professional skills and experience within education, safeguarding and Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)
 * an interest or expertise in mental health and wellbeing.
What can we offer?
 * A chance to develop skills in strategic management
 * The opportunity to work with our team of governors and staff in improving outcomes
 * A sense of achievement in making a difference to our school and the pleasure of helping students reach their potential
What is the Governing Body’s Role?
Although it is a voluntary role you will be part of a friendly and supportive team of governors who contribute greatly to the continued success of the school.
Governors are vital to the strategic running of the school and they ensure that the school remains true to their vision and ethos, supports the headteacher in relation to the academic progress of the school and performance management of the staff team. Governors also oversee the finances of the school.
As well as attending meetings, governors are also asked to look at specific areas of the School’s work in more detail.
Current governors come from a range of backgrounds but are all volunteers who work together for the benefit of the school.
For information about what is involved in being a governor you may like to look at the National Governors' Association website.
You can find out more about our school by perusing the school website.
