Overview
Join Barclays as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer and become part of our newly formed Core SRE Team. This team will establish a Centre of Excellence to enhance and promote SRE best practices across GTIS. You will design, build, and optimise automation frameworks, observability tools, and incident response mechanisms, and collaborate across GTIS and CTO with storage, data, and other product teams. You will act as a trusted advisor, providing strategic guidance to help teams improve reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
Location: The successful candidate can be based in Knutsford (Radbroke Hall) or Glasgow Campus.
Responsibilities
* Ensure availability, performance, and scalability of systems and services through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
* Respond to outages, perform analysis, root cause analysis to prevent recurrence, and implement preventive measures.
* Develop tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reduce manual work, and improve resilience.
* Monitor and optimise system performance and resource usage; identify bottlenecks and apply performance tuning practices.
* Collaborate with development teams to integrate reliability, scalability, and performance into the software development lifecycle; work with other teams to ensure smooth operations.
* Stay informed of industry trends and contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster technical excellence.
Qualifications and Skills
* Proficiency in programming and scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell, or Go) for automation and deployments.
* Incident management and troubleshooting expertise with root cause analysis capabilities.
* Systems engineering knowledge (OS, networking, cloud infrastructure) and proficiency in automation tools for reliability at scale.
* Influential communication skills to align and motivate teams and drive adoption of SRE practices.
* Knowledge of cloud computing and cloud platforms; strong problem-solving abilities for maintaining system reliability.
