Offer description

Are you ready to join a team of pioneers ready to revolutionise the future of rehabilitation? Do you have a passion for transforming the lives of people who have experienced severe injury or illness? Here at the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) you will join an innovative, forward thinking team with the collective objective of providing first class rehabilitation to our patients.

The Psychological Health team at the NRC undertakes highly specialist assessment, formulation, intervention and research, with patients with a musculoskeletal and/or neurological condition. We treat patients from diverse backgrounds, a wide age range and needs (e.g. physical, intellectual, communication). The Assistant Psychologists are involved in all these clinical activities, working with patients individually or in small groups.

We are looking for two people with an aptitude and enthusiasm for applying psychological knowledge, and the people skills to deliver this effectively. You will have an appropriate qualification in psychology, and we would encourage applicants who are able to draw on their lived experience or exposure when working as a psychologist.

The NRC is due to open early 2026. In the meantime the post is based at Linden Lodge at City Hospital.

These posts are primarily based at the NRC, but organisationally it sits within the Department of Clinical Psychology & Neuropsychology at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This means that there are excellent opportunities for learning and career development, and the post-holder may be required to work into other services in the department if the needs arises. You may be deployed to other related services at NUH if required by the department.

Your work will be with rehabilitation patients with various health conditions, including musculoskeletal injury or brain injury.

Your main role is to provide specialist assessment, intervention and advice, appropriate to an Assistant Psychologist, under the direction and supervision of a Clinical Psychologist. This clinical activity will be direct to patients, their family, or groups of patients. You will also help create and prepare resources to use with patients.

You will attend meetings in which you must communicate clearly to the wider team, and bring important information back to colleagues in the Psychological Health team. You will help organise patient appointments and room booking.

You will generally work 8am-4pm, during which you will be expected to be on-site.

We particularly welcome applications from people who identify as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic, or Disabled, as we are striving to be better represented at NUH.
