Role Purpose
The Senior Early Years Officer will have day-to-day responsibility to lead and manage the early years team within the setting to deliver high-quality early learning and childcare, in line with local and national policies, procedures, and objectives. Under the direction of the Headteacher/Setting Manager,
work effectively with all staff to build a positive and shared ethos of high-quality care and learning for all children.
Develop high-quality relationships and interactions with children that promote wellbeing and extend thinking and concept development.
To deputise for the Headteacher/Manager and have full responsibility for all aspects of the Early Learning and Childcare setting during school holiday periods.
Qualifications required include: BA Childhood Practice, PDA in Childhood Practice, or other equivalent, relevant qualification recognized by the Scottish Social Services Council for registration as a Manager in a Daycare of Children’s Service with no conditions.
In addition, a practice qualification such as HNC Childhood Practice, SVQ 7 Social Services Children and Young People (including units related to children’s learning and development), or NNEB/SNNEB is required.
Applicants may also be considered if they are in year 2 of the BA or halfway through postgraduate qualifications such as a Post Graduate Diploma or Master’s.
Applicants not yet completed with their qualification must be informed that if successful, a condition of employment will be added, giving 3 years to complete it from the start date.
All successful applicants will be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 3 months of appointment and maintain registration throughout employment.
