Technical Coordinator – Mechanical/Electrical
We are looking for a Technical Coordinator to join our Wastewater Operations Team working across the Thames Valley North area, based at Oxford Sewage Treatment Works. The role is part of a close and supportive Field Operations team.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate complex maintenance activities with in‑house teams and external contractors.
* Ensure compliance with legal statutory maintenance obligations (e.g., lifting equipment, pressure vessels, generators).
* Maintain plant availability across the estate, driving improvement and aiming for best practice.
* Serve as the technical mentor for the maintenance team, including apprentices.
* Manage pre‑requisites in SAP (materials, permits, resources, services) for all complex jobs, both planned and reactive.
* Use technical expertise and field data to design operationally critical jobs.
* Identify and highlight key operational risks, presenting them for funding approval.
* Monitor plant and equipment availability, optimising treatment process performance.
* Develop collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Provide expert advice on technical issues and generate solutions to operational risks.
* Obtain quotes, order materials and 3rd‑party services through framework contractors.
* Ensure Health and Safety requirements are managed correctly, including safe system of work approval, RAMS review, permitting and site audits.
Location & Working Pattern
Base Location: Oxford STW – OX4 4YU. Travel to various sites around the Thames Valley North area will be required.
Working Pattern: 36 hours, Monday‑Friday, 7:30 – 15:36.
Requirements
Valid UK driving licence.
Qualifications & Experience
* Relevant experience within Water or Wastewater treatment or a comparable industry, preferably as a Mechanical and Electrical technician or ICA technician.
* Time served as an apprentice and a relevant technical qualification.
* Highly logical, able to decide on and build dependencies between tasks.
* Collaborative, able to work closely with Planners, Field Performance Managers, suppliers and 3rd parties.
* Technically experienced with a good understanding of asset maintenance.
* Good local knowledge of asset importance and inter‑asset relationships.
* Meticulous documentation of detailed job requirements.
* Able to manage a large workload of numerous jobs in parallel.
* Competent with IT systems (extensive SAP use) and effective communication skills.
* Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues relevant to the industry.
* Clean driving licence essential due to travel requirements.
