Summary

The Service is currently accepting applications for the Crew Manager USAR Promotion Board.

To be eligible to apply for future Crew Manager USAR promotions, you will need to be successful in either this Crew Manager USAR Promotion Board process or the Crew Manager Promotion Board.

* This process will comprise of an application (detailed below), eligibility check, shortlisting, and a 6-question interview. If successful in all elements you will be placed on the Crew Manager Control Promotion Board list.
* If you have been successful in the recent Crew Manager Promotion Board, you do not need to submit another application. If you have previously been successfully shortlisted for the Crew Manager Promotion Board, you can resubmit your previous application and you will then be invited to interview. If you haven’t previously applied, or submitted an application that was not shortlisted, you will need to submit a full application, and if shortlisted you will be invited to interview.
* Going forward Crew Manager USAR vacancies will be advertised on the vacancies page of the website; you will need to meet the essential criteria for the role and be on the Crew Manager Promotion Board list or looking to make a lateral move to be eligible to apply. The process will consist of a short expression of interest application, shortlisting and a 4-question technical interview.
* If successful, your Crew Manager USAR Promotion Board pass will be valid for two years. If you have not been successful in securing a promotion in this time or are subject to any disciplinary action or performance improvement, you will be required to reapply to the Promotion Board.

From 1 April 2024, we have introduced development rates of pay for any new individuals moving into a development or an acting-up role. These pay rates are set out by the National Joint Council.

Applications are invited from suitably experienced and qualified Firefighters and Crew Managers who are competent USAR Technicians. Eligible applicants will need to meet the following criteria as a minimum:

* Be a competent substantive Firefighter and a competent USAR Technician
* Have been successful at a Leading Others assessment centre (if undertaken prior to April 2024) or all 3 elements of the Leading Others Assessment (if undertaken after April 2024).
* Able to demonstrate and evidence significant leadership experience
* Not subject to formal performance improvement actions, nor have any live disciplinary sanctions
* Discussed the opportunity with your Line Manager.




Our Identity

You will need to complete the application form via the link below which will include a personal impact statement. The personal impact statement relates to each of the four quadrants of the NFCC Leadership Framework as well as operational and professional expertise. Your impact statement should focus on demonstrating your impact at Leading Others level.

You will also need to detail how you meet the following essential attributes of the role:

*Experience of challenging inappropriate behaviour

*How do you feel the role of Crew Manager contributes to the Service priorities?

*Share your experience in fostering a positive culture of health, safety and wellbeing at work

*What strategies do you use to inspire others to be productive at work?

The information you provide in the personal impact statement, along with the detail on how you meet the above essential requirements, will be used to shortlist your application.

Please ensure your Line Manager is aware of your application.
