Overview
Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine (Asthma) role at Swansea Bay University Health Board. Applications are invited for an enthusiastic, dedicated colleague with an interest in asthma to join a team of nine full-time and two academic colleagues working across Morriston, Singleton and Neath Port Talbot Hospitals. The post supports the acute General Medical intake at Morriston as part of a multidisciplinary team including five Respiratory Physicians and 22 colleagues from other medical specialties.
Responsibilities
* Lead and support the Asthma services across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.
* Expand the Respiratory Team's input to acute Respiratory Medicine at Morriston Hospital.
* Contribute to the Respiratory Unit's referral service for diagnosis and management of respiratory diseases (excluding cystic fibrosis) and participate in multidisciplinary collaboration with Thoracic Surgery, Radiology and Histopathology.
* Support the provision of Respiratory Clinics across Morriston, Singleton and Neath Port Talbot Hospitals and participate in the development of a dedicated respiratory rota.
* Engage with the Lung Function Laboratory and radiology services to facilitate a one-stop service where applicable.

* Salary: £110,240 to £160,951 per annum, pro rata

Qualifications
* Essential: Registered with the GMC; licensed to practice; on Specialist Register with GMC (including via CESR/European Community Rights) as a specialist in Respiratory Medicine
* Desirable: Relevant Higher Degree (e.g., MD, PhD, MSc)
Experience
* Broad-based experience in Respiratory Medicine and General Internal Medicine (GIM)
* Evidence of teaching and training post/undergraduate clinical staff
* Experience in initiating, progressing and completing audits; knowledge of UK hospital systems and CPD
* Experience in clinical governance, risk management, critical appraisal of evidence, and research with publications
Skills & Abilities
* Effective leadership and the ability to take responsibility and lead when appropriate
* Proficiency with information systems and technology; experience organizing teaching and programmes in medical education
* Knowledge of NHS management structures
* Desirable: Training the Trainers experience and management training
Personal Attributes
* Flexible, adaptable, able to work under pressure; excellent interpersonal and team-working skills
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and adapt to changing service needs
* Enthusiasm to take a lead role in clinical development; empathy and sensitivity in patient interactions

* Demonstrate English communication skills adequate for discussing medical topics with patients and colleagues
* Ability to fulfil all duties of the post, including on-call commitments and travel
