We are looking for one whole-time Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with an interest in Trauma, Pelvis and Acetabular surgery to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. This post would include primary lower limb arthroplasty at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield Elective Orthopaedic Centre. Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues. Main duties of the job The appointed Consultant will primarily focus on General Trauma with a sub-specialist interest in pelvic and acetabular surgery with an elective practice in Lower Limb Arthroplasty. The role includes the following responsibilities: • Join 2 existing colleagues to manage the pelvic and acetabular trauma. The appointee should be able to manage complex acetabular fractures, including fix and replace and pelvic ring injuries. • Undertake complex fracture care. Specifically, we require that the appointee be capable of undertaking complex internal fixation of femur, tibial plateau and plafond fractures, humerus and forearm. Skills in advanced nailing techniques of the long bones are required. • Share responsibility with colleagues for weekday trauma and fractured neck of femur operating lists. • Conduct elective outpatient clinics and elective operating sessions. • Provide cover for consultant colleagues during periods of absence Please refer to the supporting job description and person specification which will outline the duties of the role including an indicative job plan.
