This is a dual graded role depending on qualifications and experience, commencing from £35,774 to £41,168 per annum (rising to £47,167) within Grade D1, or from £42,641 to £49,090 per annum (rising to £52,555) within Grade C.

Location: Stanley, Falkland Islands.

Contract: Fixed Term, up to 4 years. Full Time, 37.5 hours per week. Closing on 15/06/2026 at 23:59.


The Opportunity

The Agricultural Advisor - Wool and Sheep Genetics will help lead and modernise key services that underpin one of the Falkland Islands' most important industries. This is a varied and influential role combining technical expertise, industry engagement and strategic leadership. You will help deliver genetic improvement through the National Stud Flock, support innovation at the Department's demonstration farm, and provide practical advice to farmers to improve productivity, wool quality and long‑term livestock resilience.


The Package

* Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years.
* Salary, £35,774‑£41,168 per annum (rising to £47,167) within Grade D1, or £42,641‑£49,090 per annum (rising to £52,555) within Grade C.
* 25% Gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract.
* 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totaling 41 days leave).
* Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
* Flights Package for you and your dependents, including annual return flight home.
* Government Housing, for rent and a starter pack to help you settle in.


Main Responsibilities

* Lead breeding and genetic improvement programmes for the National Stud Flock.
* Support management and development of the Department's demonstration farm.
* Plan and deliver the annual National Stud Flock Ram Sale.
* Manage and advise on‑farm AI and ET breeding programmes.
* Deliver farm visits, workshops, reports and public communications.
* Develop benchmarking, livestock data and reporting systems to help farmers track their genetic gain and productivity.
* Contribute to developing and delivering the Department's long‑term strategic plan.
* Support grants, innovation projects and wider agricultural development.
* Line manage staff and seasonal personnel.


Essential Requirements

* Relevant degree or equivalent qualification.
* Significant experience in livestock genetics, production and breeding.
* Familiarity with electronic stock management and breeding systems.
* Experience in the wool and/or sheep industry is preferred.
* Experience in agricultural advisory, consultancy or extension work.
* Strong analytical, organisational and project management skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and within a small team.
* Full manual driving licence.
