Senior Healthy Living Officer (Neighbourhood Services)
About us
This Senior Healthy Living Officer role sits within the Neighbourhood Services Operational Team which is part of the Neighbourhood Services and Transport Division, within the Directorate for Environment and Housing. Our remit is broad reaching covering the vast majority of the Vale of Glamorgan Councils frontline services, with this role managing specific elements, such as:
1. To advise and liaise as necessary with the Team Leaders, Neighbourhood Services in respect of Feature Parks & Gardens, Strategy, and operators.
2. To develop the open spaces to achieve and sustain relevant awards.
3. To advise and develop strategic plans relating to open spaces and their role in the regeneration of the Vale of Glamorgan.
4. To manage a programme of works to enhance open spaces.
5. To work collaboratively with others to promote and program developments, events, and activities in open parks. To increase public participation, and to raise awareness/understanding of the importance of open spaces.
6. To work with others including education and health partners to establish future needs from the community for local facilities in open spaces.

About the role
Pay Details: Grade 8, SCP 26 - 30, £36,124 to £39,513
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week
Main Place of Work: Alps Depot and hybrid working including site and home
Description: The role of the Senior Heathy Living Officer will be to improve, develop and increase horticultural, recreational, sports and health opportunities in parks & open spaces within the Vale of Glamorgan working closely with all Neighbourhood Services staff, Keep Wales Tidy, Neighbourhood Services (Operations), Volunteer Groups, Friends of Groups, Park users, Contractors and Events Organisers.
About you
You will need to be:
7. Experienced in working in open space management.
8. Experienced in working with national open space groups, Keep Wales Tidy, Parks Forum, Heritage Lottery.
9. Experienced in writing Award applications and management plans.
10. Experienced in managing Heritage Lottery Funded Projects.
11. Experienced in Capital Works projects, handling large budgets and ordering stock as necessary.
12. Experienced in working and managing volunteer groups and other third sector organisations.
13. Knowledgeable in managing open spaces, including horticulture, arboriculture and grounds maintenance.
14. Knowledgeable in conservation and countryside management techniques.
15. Knowledgeable in community awards processes.
16. Confident and engaging communication skills both oral and written plus the ability to deliver presentations to stakeholders.
17. Able to communicate effectively with staff and customers
18. Able to interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
19. Able to work on own initiative and under pressure.
20. Able to act with integrity, honesty and transparency
21. Highly motivated with the ability to be flexible and responsive to changes in service priorities and demands.
22. Willing to work unsocial hours including weekends and evenings as required.
23. Computer literate with proven ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of programmes and have a good understanding of current technology.
