Consultant Psychiatrist at IOT

Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and committed Consultant to join our established Integrated Outreach Team (IOT) as a full-time substantive Consultant Psychiatrist. This is an opportunity to work in a place where your team values you. Based at Legrams Terrace, Fieldhead Business Centre, you will work alongside an engaged, supportive, and passionate multidisciplinary team, offering assessment, treatment, and care for patients with time-limited and/or complex mental health disorders. The IOT serves a diverse caseload, with a focus on psychotic illnesses and dual diagnoses, reflecting the needs of the local community.

Main duties of the job

As Consultant Psychiatrist in the Integrated Outreach Team, you'll lead on clinical assessments, treatment planning, and multidisciplinary reviews for adults with complex mental health needs. Your role will include outpatient clinics, home visits, tribunal reporting, and emergency assessments under the Mental Health Act. You'll provide supervision to junior doctors and nurse prescribers, contribute to service development, and actively participate in teaching, audit, and quality improvement. With dedicated time for CPD and leadership responsibilities, this is a rewarding opportunity to shape care delivery and drive innovation within a supportive and forward-thinking team.

Job responsibilities

Applicants should have a higher qualification in psychiatry (Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent) and be included on or be eligible for inclusion on the GMCs Specialist Register. Specialty Registrars who are within 6 months of attainment of CCST at the time of interview are eligible to apply. The appointee will need to be both AC and S12 approved at the time of the interview, or be fully eligible for approval.

Person Specification


Knowledge & Skills

* Effective leadership skills
* Ability to deliver care in collaboration with service users and their families/carers.
* Ability to supervise junior staff
* Awareness of the funding arrangements in the NHS and recent NHS developments
* Ability to interpret published research and to apply research findings to clinical practice.
* Experience of involvement in service development and/or reconfiguration
* Practical experience of research
* Sympathetic to the Trust's mission


Training & Qualifications

* Certificate of Completion of Training in General Adult Psychiatry (ST6 trainees should be within six months of attainment at the time of the interview) or CESR equivalent.
* Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion
* Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approval and Approved Clinician
* MD, Other professional qualification (e.g. MSc)


Experience

* Experience in General Adult Psychiatry
* Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective.
* Experience to a level allowing recognition of trainer status by the Royal College of Psychiatrist.
* Experience in teaching undergraduates & postgraduates.
* Evidence of experience in medical audit and understanding of principles of clinical governance
* Practical experience of Clinical Audit
* Able to use and appraise clinical evidence.
* Teaching/presentation experience (e.g. conference presentation, EBM, research experience).


Other

* Ability to exercise effective leadership in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Understanding of importance of multi-disciplinary service provision and the care programme approach.
* Understanding of and ability to deliver care in collaboration with service users to promote recovery.
* Sensitivity to needs of different ethnic and minority groups.
* Awareness of gender issues in the service provision.
* Highly effective communication skills.
* Participate in Continuous Professional Development
