The Trust plays a vital role in the communities it serves, creating real, lasting change through education, opportunity and support.

Why join us?

At Heron Hall, we share the Trust's vision - to help every child succeed at school and in life. We live by the values of Education, Community, Opportunity, ensuring every pupil receives an excellent education, feels part of a strong and caring community, and has the chance to grow into a confident, well-rounded individual. As soon as you enter Heron Hall, you feel the pride, purpose and unity that define us. Our high standards and inclusive culture ensure that every pupil is supported, challenged and inspired to reach their full potential. We believe in every child and together, with North Star Community Trust, we help them believe in themselves.

About the role

We are looking for an inspirational, dedicated and experienced Head of Physical Education to provide strategic and operational leadership within our academy. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a department that delivers a high-quality, inclusive and engaging curriculum, supporting pupils across all key stages and designed to meet the needs of all learners. The PE curriculum at our academy is rooted in pupil development and a love for learning. It offers a broad and balanced programme that incorporates a wide range of sports and physical activities, promoting physical literacy, confidence, teamwork and healthy lifestyles.

As Head of Department, you will be responsible for leading curriculum development, staff management and departmental improvement, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning and outcomes for pupils. You will provide clear direction for the team, oversee resource management and use data analysis to inform decision‑making. A teaching commitment is included within the role, enabling you to model excellent classroom practice, mentor colleagues and remain actively engaged with pupils' learning experiences.

What we are looking for

You will be a qualified teacher (QTS) with a degree in PE, Sports Science, or a related field, and strong leadership experience in secondary education. You will have a proven track record of delivering outstanding PE across Key Stages 3-5, delivering successful outcomes for the Cambridge National in Sports Studies, driving curriculum development, supporting diverse learners and improving outcomes through innovative teaching and strategic initiatives.

Passionate about sport, health and wellbeing, you will motivate pupils and staff, lead extracurricular programmes and foster an inclusive, safe and high‑performing learning environment. Strong organisational, communication, and IT skills are essential, along with a commitment to professional development and upholding the highest standards.

What we offer

* Access to NSCT Health Cash Plan, covering a range of healthcare cover, benefits, perks and discounts
* Career pathways and leadership development
* Continuous professional development and training opportunities
* Promote manageable workloads and support a healthy work life balance
* Generous pension scheme
* Subsidised lunches in our canteen
* Cycle to work scheme
* Staff referral bonus scheme
* Free onsite parking

Safeguarding statement

We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. As part of our recruitment process, the successful candidate will be required to undergo safer recruitment checks, including enhanced clearance through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and any other pre‑employment checks relevant to their role.

Equal opportunities

We are committed to fostering a positive and inclusive working culture that reflects our Trust's ethos of being 'Stronger Together.' The Trust is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all. It aims to create a working environment in which all individuals are able to make best use of their skills, free from discrimination or harassment, and in which all decisions are based on merit.
