School of Aeronautical Automotive Chemical and Materials Engineering
The researcher will join the flagship European research consortium PHARMECO, which aims to develop practical tools and frameworks for the next generation of sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing technologies.
The primary objective of this position is to develop Safe and Sustainable by Design ( SSbD ) synthetic routes and manufacturing processes for both small and large active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), including peptides and oligonucleotides.
The researcher will leverage state-of-the-art computer-assisted retrosynthesis tools, artificial intelligence, and advanced process simulation technologies to design, optimize, and rank total synthetic routes. They will also develop systematic decision-making frameworks to evaluate and compare alternative routes based on multiple competing criteria, such as environmental footprint, cost, and regulatory compliance.
Furthermore, the researcher will generate process and inventory data to support prospective life cycle assessments (LCA) and contribute to early- stage experimentation and simulation activities.
