Hiring Range: $65,000 - $75,000

Job Description:
General Description:

The Transfer Coach reports to the Associate Dean of Student Success and will provide transfer coaching to students through appointments, drop-in and group sessions. The Transfer Coach will educate students, faculty members and staff on issues related to the transfer process in general and the requirements for receiving universities and colleges. The Transfer Coach will work in collaboration with the office of University Transfer and Initiatives, as well as other campus colleagues to assure robust support for all NOVA students seeking to transfer.

Duties and Tasks:

1. Engage in direct interactions, relationship building, and both general and transfer advising in support of students.
2. Support the design and facilitation of workshops for faculty members, staff, students, and prospective students on a variety of transfer topics, including the transfer planning process, transfer resources, transfer updates, and Transfer Virginia.
3. Keep accurate, up to date notes with the appropriate student tracking software.
4. Collect data, track outcomes, and produce reports about students seeking to transfer.
5. Meet regularly with colleagues on the Transfer Working Group and Academic Affairs personnel to actively support policy and process improvement in collaboration with central student services.
6. In collaboration with campus Transfer Counselor (if present) coordinate all campus visits, workshops, fairs, and other transfer events featuring four-year colleges and universities.
7. Collaborate with other transfer coaches to develop and disseminate a monthly transfer newsletter/blog.
8. Work with colleagues in Academic Affairs and at other campuses to provide a coordinated college approach to transfer events and communications.
9. Help students identify a transfer institution that is a strong fit for their career goals, financial capabilities, and personal characteristics.
10. Manage the gathering, analysis, interpretation, maintenance, and dissemination of transfer information: GAA, Articulation Agreements, and other transfer agreements held between NOVA and partner institutions.
11. Design and gather data from informal/formal needs assessments to build transfer programs.
12. Serve as a college liaison to university admissions representatives and faculty members, including embedded representatives on the NOVA campuses.
13. Serve as a liaison to any advising teams established in a new advising model.
14. Provide general academic advising to all NOVA students through on demand walk-in advising.
15. Participate in College task forces, pathway councils, leadership committees, and working groups.
16. Participate in regular professional development as required and/or relevant to the assigned work.
Minimum Qualifications:

17. Knowledge of student development theories and best advising and coaching practices.
18. Skill in providing academic and transfer coaching and an ability to maintain confidentiality.
19. Ability to discern appropriate instances of confidentiality and effectively communicate this with students.
20. Ability to promote inclusive coaching sessions and a campus climate respectful of diversity and multiculturalism.
21. Ability to utilize interpersonal and problem-solving skills to collaborate and negotiate with students, faculty, staff, parents, members of the community and university representatives.
22. Knowledge of relevant federal, state, VCCS, and college policies and regulations including the Family Education Rights Privacy Act (FERPA), Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Title IX, and VAWA/SaVE, and Clery legislation.
23. Ability to understand, disseminate, interpret, and communicate college policies and regulations using approved and accepted processes and practices.
24. Demonstrate outstanding oral and written communication skills, including the development of letters, emails, and workshop materials, and the ability to present to and instruct large and small audiences.
25. Ability to initiate, design, implement, and evaluate programs and projects.
26. Ability to collaborate on the development, assessment and reporting of student learning outcomes and other assessment measures.
27. Knowledge of both general and specific transfer-out processes and policies, as well as a working knowledge of NOVA’s top transfer partners.
28. Ability to provide general academic advising as part of department on-demand services.
29. Ability to conduct responsibilities while demonstrating excellent customer service skills.
30. Knowledge of, and skill in, computer usage including Microsoft Office, e-mail, student information systems, CANVAS, Adobe Acrobat Reader, social media and use of the Internet to complete research.
31. Ability to understand and conceptualize data needs and utilize database systems to generate reports.
32. Ability to occasionally travel to off-campus work sites such as other campuses, college sites, or local universities.
33. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Requirements:
34. Professional experience providing advising to college students or prospective college students.
35. Teaching or workshop facilitation experience.
36. Experience with comprehensive college/university program and event planning, implementation, and evaluation.
37. Experience in providing transfer advising to college students.

38. Experience in academic success coaching or counseling.
39. Bilingual with proficiency in a foreign language frequently spoken in Northern Virginia.
40. Experience utilizing Navigate and PeopleSoft or other student information systems.
