Overview
We are looking for an experienced GP practice nurse to carry out scheduled reviews of women who have diabetes and to focus discussions on preparing for a healthy pregnancy. You will be employed by SDS MyHealthcare and work with the Sparkbrook Children’s Zone team.
Sparkbrook Children’s Zone has been operational since 2022 offering both children’s health and family support through our partnership with Early Help. Working closely with Early Help enables timely support for families for a variety of reasons; most commonly SEND needs/behavioural concerns, feeding issues and support accessing activities.
Responsibilities
* See women aged 18-45 who have diabetes/prediabetes or a history of gestational diabetes, guided by the Bump Ready toolkit for consultations.
* Optimise diabetes management and provide contraceptive advice.
* Offer ad hoc immunisations if eligible (usually MMR preconception).
* Perform smears if within required recall.
* Discuss wider determinants of health and refer to the in-house Early Help team.
* Ensure longer appointments (45 minutes) to enable thorough discussions and learning about health.
Role and working arrangements
* Location: GP surgeries within the Sparkhill, Balsall Heath & Moseley PCN.
* Hours: 10 hours per week, on one day (flexibility available based on clinic needs).
* Employment type: Locum or substantive role; salary £27-£30 per hour depending on experience.
* Supervision and training: Supervised by an experienced GP and receive specialised training from the hospital diabetes preconception team.
* EMIS and standardised care: All practices use EMIS and a standard template will be used.
* Project status: This is a pilot project; the template and role may develop with service delivery experience.
