🚆 Senior Electrical Engineer – Rolling Stock
📍 Derby, UK
We’re supporting a well-established rail engineering consultancy to appoint an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to work across a diverse portfolio of passenger, freight, metro, and light rail rolling stock projects.
This is a technically senior role offering real ownership across the full project lifecycle — from feasibility and design through to integration, assurance, testing, and entry into service — with exposure to major operators, ROSCOs, OEMs, and public bodies.
The role
You’ll lead the delivery of electrical and electronic engineering solutions, providing high-quality consultancy while ensuring compliance with UK and EU railway standards.
Key elements include:
* Electrical systems integration and vehicle modification projects
* Train control and protection systems upgrades
* Production and approval of design packs, schematics, calculations, and test documentation
* Leading verification & validation, static/dynamic testing, and readiness for service
* Assurance against standards such as TSIs / NTSNs and EN 50126 (Functional Safety)
* Mentoring engineers and leading technical work packages
* Supporting bids, estimating, and customer engagement
What we’re looking for
* Strong electrical engineering background with rolling stock experience
* Proven delivery of electrical systems integration and vehicle modifications
* Solid understanding of railway standards, approvals, and assurance processes
* Experience working across multi-disciplinary engineering projects
* Confident communicator with the ability to engage customers and stakeholders
Desirable:
* Chartered Engineer (or working towards)
* Experience with TCMS, diagnostics, condition monitoring, or cybersecurity awareness
* Exposure to bidding, estimating, or early-stage project work
