Offer description

Overview

As Senior Warehouse Operations Manager, you are responsible for the strategic leadership and end-to-end performance of our warehouse and operational functions across two Glasgow sites: our main warehouse and distribution centre and our tile warehouse.

Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will provide senior oversight of all warehousing, logistics, stock control, and delivery operations, with full accountability for health, safety, legal compliance, and operational performance. This role combines strategic ownership and hands-on operational accountability, ensuring both sites operate legally, efficiently, and in alignment with business objectives.

You will line manage the Warehouse Manager, and work closely with the Head of Operations and cross functional teams to support growth, maintain operational excellence, and deliver a consistently high level of service, while embedding a strong and sustainable safety culture across both sites.

Main Responsibilities

Multi-Site Operational Leadership

* Provide senior leadership across both warehouse sites, ensuring consistent standards, processes, and performance.
* Maintain overall accountability for warehousing, stock control, goods in/out, and local delivery operations across both locations.
* Line manage the Warehouse Manager, setting clear objectives, providing coaching and support, and holding accountability for day-to-day execution.
* Ensure effective resourcing, workflow planning, and capacity management across both sites to meet current and future demand.
* Ensure all operational activity is planned and delivered in a safe and compliant manner, with health and safety considerations embedded into operational decision-making.
* Act as the senior escalation point for operational issues, service disruptions, or site-level challenges, and serious safety incidents.

Performance, KPIs & Continuous Improvement

* Define, monitor, and drive KPIs across both warehouse locations, ensuring alignment with wider operational and commercial goals.
* Establish and monitor H&S KPIs alongside productivity, quality, and cost measures.
* Analyse performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for efficiency, quality, and cost improvements.
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives, embedding SMART objectives and methodologies such as 5S across both sites.
* Drive consistency in ways of working while adapting solutions to suit the specific needs of each warehouse environment.
* Ensure safety standards are maintained at all times, including during periods of peak demand, change, or operational pressure.

People Leadership & Development

* Build and maintain a strong management structure across both sites through effective leadership and succession planning.
* Coach and develop the Warehouse Manager to strengthen leadership capability and operational effectiveness.
* Oversee people management within the operational function, ensuring fair, consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
* Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and development planning across both warehouse teams.
* Ensure managers and supervisors clearly understand and effectively discharge their H&S responsibilities.
* Address unsafe behaviours or breaches promptly and consistently through coaching, corrective action, or formal processes where required.
* Foster an engaged, accountable, and high-performing culture aligned to company values.

Health, Safety & Compliance

* Hold overall accountability for health, safety, and legal compliance across both warehouse sites, acting as the senior responsible manager.
* Ensure full compliance with all relevant UK health and safety legislation, company policies, and industry best practice.
* Embed a strong, proactive safety culture, ensuring health and safety is treated as a core operational priority, not an administrative task.
* Ensure robust systems are in place, consistently applied, and regularly reviewed for:
* Risk assessments and safe systems of work
* Accident, incident, and near‑miss reporting and investigation
* Manual handling, working at height, and hazardous activities
* Fleet operations, forklifts, and material handling equipment
* Contractor and visitor safety management
* Ensure all incidents are thoroughly investigated, root causes identified, and corrective actions implemented and sustained.
* Lead and oversee health and safety audits, inspections, and reviews, ensuring actions are completed within agreed timescales.
* Act as the senior escalation point for serious incidents, breaches, enforcement matters, and regulator engagement where required.
* Ensure appropriate training, competency, and certification are in place for all operational roles.
* Proactively identify risks arising from operational change, growth, or new processes, ensuring controls are implemented before change is introduced.
* Hold the Warehouse Manager and wider leadership team fully accountable for maintaining high health and safety standards and behaviours.

Collaboration & Business Alignment

* Work closely with Purchasing, Sales, and Customer Services to align stock availability, lead times, and customer commitments.
* Ensure clear communication and coordination between warehouse locations to avoid duplication, inefficiencies, or stock discrepancies.
* Contribute to wider business planning, operational projects, and change initiatives as part of the senior operations leadership team.

Person Specification

This role requires an experienced, operational leader who can balance strategic thinking with practical execution and strong safety leadership. You will be confident leading managers, driving performance through data, and creating consistency across complex warehouse operations. To succeed in this role, you will need to:

* Have substantial experience in senior warehouse and/or operations management, ideally in a multi-site environment.
* Demonstrate proven experience holding accountability for health and safety in an operational setting.
* Show a strong working understanding of UK health and safety requirements within a warehouse or operational setting.
* Demonstrate proven ability to lead and develop managers as well as frontline teams.
* Show strong analytical capability, using KPIs and operational data to inform decision-making.
* Possess excellent organisational, planning, and prioritisation skills.
* Communicate clearly and confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
* Take a proactive and structured approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Our Values, Your Actions
