Make a Real Difference, One Person at a Time - Join us as a Night Support Worker
Mill Lane is a small, welcoming residential service in Histon, supporting adults with physical and learning disabilities. Everyone we support currently has Cerebral Palsy and receives dedicated 1:1 support, allowing staff the time and space to truly focus on the individual, not just tasks.
This is a service with a genuine family feel — calm, relaxed, and focused on choice, dignity, and enjoying everyday life.
About You
About The Role
About the Location – Histon, Cambridge
Mill Lane is based in Histon, a well‑connected and popular village just north of Cambridge. Histon offers a blend of village charm and city convenience, with local shops, cafés, green spaces, and easy access into Cambridge by car, bike, or public transport.
While public transport is available, unsocial hours mean having your own transport is strongly recommended. If you live locally, it’s a fantastic place to work — peaceful, community‑focused, and far removed from the pressures of busy city‑centre services.
The Role
We’re looking for Support Workers who want more than just a job — people who want to build meaningful relationships and support someone to live a good, ordinary life.
You’ll usually work long 12‑hour shifts, supporting one individual at a time with daily life, activities, and opportunities out in the community. This is health and social care, not nursing.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Providing 1:1 support to adults with physical and learning disabilities
* Offering hands‑on physical support with daily living
* Supporting with cooking, domestic tasks, and personal routines
* Planning and enjoying outings, activities, and trips
* Supporting individuals with holidays and stays away from the service
* Building positive relationships with families and relatives
* Encouraging choice, independence, and enjoyment of each day
We’re Looking For Someone Who Is
* Cheerful, positive, and brings a “can‑do” attitude
* Flexible, reliable, and comfortable with 12‑hour shifts
* A good communicator, especially with families
* Practical, patient, and happy to provide hands‑on physical support
* Willing to support people out and about, not just at home
* Able to travel reliably to the service
Essential
* A genuine interest in supporting people with disabilities
* Flexibility to work unsocial hours
* Ability to work independently within a small team
Desirable (but Not Essential)
* Previous experience in care or support
* Full driving licence (manual preferred)
* A good sense of humour
We welcome applicants with transferable skills — if you have the right values and attitude, full training will be provided.
Why Work at Mill Lane?
This isn’t a loud, frantic, task‑driven service. Compared to more traditional residential settings, Mill Lane offers:
* Time to support one person properly
* A calmer, more personal working environment
* Real job satisfaction and a strong sense of achievement
* The chance to genuinely enjoy your work
