Role Snapshot…

We are seeking to recruit to two new, entry‑level roles in the Licensing team that offer an ideal starting point into a professional career and the big wide world of Licensing. You will mainly be involved with licensable activities associated with taxi licensing (vehicles, drivers and private hire operators) where no two days are the same!

What you could be part of…

Licensing plays a vital role in protecting the public and ensuring a fair and level playing field for businesses. With our highly professional team, following a recent service review, these new roles are very important in meeting sustained licensing demand from the taxi trade within Broadland. Our aim is to drive high compliance through a robust but fair role as a licensing authority, and balance this with a business‑friendly commercial approach. By promoting confidence amongst potential licensing applicants and holders, and maintaining a safe and healthy balance, we aim to encourage positive growth and excellent levels of customer satisfaction.

Working at the Council enables you to be part of an organisation that is proud to deliver high‑quality, customer‑focused services. Our success comes from being commercially astute and business‑like. Continuous improvement is also vital, and we challenge ourselves to develop new and innovative ways to improve the services that make a real difference to people's lives.

What you'll be doing…

Assistant licensing duties - Undertaking the full range of assistant licensing officer duties to support the Licensing and Enforcement Officers within the team.

Building relationships - Building strong working relationships internally and externally to promote and encourage compliance under all appropriate licensing legislation.

Administering licences - Administering and assisting in issuing licences under established business rules and maintaining licensing databases and registers.

Investigating complaints - Investigating initial complaints about existing licences and unlicensed activities, in liaison with Licensing and Enforcement Officers, both office‑based and with some on‑district working.

Providing technical advice - Providing routine technical advice to customers on aspects of licensing, face‑to‑face and by telephone, and assessing, accepting, rejecting, and processing applications according to set criteria.

Checking licence conditions - Ascertaining that licence conditions are adhered to and maintaining records that may form part of evidence gathering.

You must have…

A‑level or licensing qualification - An A‑level standard qualification/education (or equivalent), or a recognised professional licensing qualification (or willingness to study toward the Institute of Licensing Professional Licensing Practitioners Qualification).

Licensing experience - Demonstrable experience in local authority licensing in an advisory role.

Deadline management - Ability to work to strict deadlines and under pressure on a variety of duties with excellent organisational skills.

Decision‑making skills - Ability to make decisions within defined procedures and deal with difficult people or situations involving conflict or confrontation.

Report writing - Able to write and present clear and concise reports.

Time management - Good time and work management skills.

Driving licence - Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle for work.

Closing Date: Sunday 14th June 2026 at 23.45

Interview Date: week commencing 22nd June 2026 (provisional)
