Anopportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated band 5 staff nurse towork within the Cataract Treatment Centre. The role is interesting, varied andincludes duties and responsibilities across both theatre and outpatientsettings. In house training will begiven to achieve the competencies required for the role. The service ispresently Monday to Friday with variable shift patterns from 8.00am to 17.30.There are opportunities for development including pre-assessment and the roleof primary and scrub nurse. With the development of the new hospitalplanned for 2026, this poses an exciting opportunity for the right candidate.


Main duties of the job

Within theCataract Treatment Centre, the Role of a Band 5 Staff Nurse is quite diverseand varied dealing with patients attending for Cataract Surgery. We currently have funding for a 37.5 hour postor two part time staff (minimum 22 hours). The role involves working acrossTheatre and Outpatients with many responsibilities and duties throughout thepatient journey. In house training willbe given and Competency based assessments undertaken to learn all aspects ofthe role including pre-assessment, Primary Nursing and Scrub nursing to name afew.

The CataractTreatment Centre currently covers a Monday-Friday service with usual shiftpatterns between the hours of 8am-5.30pm.

Goodcommunication and organisational skills are essential for this role and youwill be required to work as part of our Multi-disciplinary team to deliver ahigh standard of patient care in a fast paced environment.

Job responsibilities

* To be responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, effective andcompassionate nursing care for patients designated to their care.
* To always work to the NMC Code.
* To supervise non-registered staff as stipulated by the NMC under the requirementsof delegation.
* Provide effective leadership and assist with the management and organisation ofthe ward/department in the absence of the Ward manager or Junior Sister / ChargeNurse.
* To comply with the trusts vision, values and behavioural compact.


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience of working in an acute hospital or community healthcare setting.
* Recent experience of working as a registered nurse.


Physical Skills

* Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.


Qualifications

* Current NMC Registration (Level 1 adult nurse) or evidence of qualification if newly qualified.
* Degree in nursing studies or healthcare related subject (UK equivalent).
* Mentorship certificate/ Practice Assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience.


Skills and Knowledge

* Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.
* Able to work without supervision.
* Competent in the use of IT such as Microsoft Office.
* Evidence of CPD.
* Knowledge of national health and social care policy.
* Knowledge of evidence based guidelines e.g. NICE guidelines, NPSA alerts, current nursing legislation.
* Venepuncture and cannulation competency.
