Are you a driven and registered Pharmacy Technician? We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our Pharmacy Homecare Team. You should have good communication skills and be able to work accurately within a busy Pharmacy setting.
Main duties of the job
* Assist in the Mersey West Lancs NHS Trust homecare medicines management services. Responsible for the general technical duties associated with homecare medicines supplies.
* Assist in the provision of financial services relating to medicines use for the Mersey West Lancs NHS Trust. Responsible for the monitoring and analysing of financial data provided to internal and external sources.
* Support the Pharmacy Homecare Team in implementing approved policies and procedures relating to the use of medicines.
* Perform a variety of pharmaceutical technical duties relating to the preparation, dispensing and supply of medicines.
* Co‑operate with all pharmacy staff in providing and developing an efficient and comprehensive pharmaceutical service under the direction of senior pharmacy management.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Works with the Pharmacy homecare team and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to develop new opportunities for homecare services.
Responsible for the day‑to‑day technical duties relating to homecare medicines supplies including reconciling and receiving orders from homecare suppliers, processing invoices, processing prescriptions and liaising with the relevant parties to resolve discrepancies.
Communicates clearly with homecare providers and patients to resolve any concerns or incidents.
Ensures that all homecare transactions are processed through the respective Pharmacy computer system.
Ensures adherence of homecare suppliers to contractual obligations and existing service level agreements.
Assists in the production of reports on quality and financial indicators on all homecare medicine services.
Works with the pharmacy purchasing teams to ensure homecare service medicine prices are kept up to date with homecare companies and reflect nationally/locally agreed contracts.
Assists in the development and implementation of SOP’s for the homecare medicine service.
Ensures compliance with current homecare medicines management guidance.
Responsible for training and supporting all grades of staff within pharmacy homecare medicines services.
Contributes to service developments ensuring change is managed smoothly (e.g. IT innovation and biosimilar switches).
Assists in auditing the service against the RPS professional standards for homecare and monitors Key Performance Indictors (KPIs) for Homecare suppliers.
Assists in completing month end tasks for both finance and homecare service.
Develops efficient communication channels with the rest of pharmacy to ensure a good understanding of the service and the roles and responsibilities of staff.
Works with clinical teams to ensure we continue to provide and maintain a high‑level service.
Assist in effecting medicine product recalls issued by the MHRA, cascading the information to the affected departments and external customers, ensuring patient safety is upheld and appropriate action and paperwork is completed.
Assist in entries onto the National immunoglobulin database e.g. Patient level infusion data.
Provide and analyse reports on drug expenditure where appropriate.
Monitor and report on High Cost Drugs liaising with the Trusts finance and contracting teams to ensure funding is received from appropriate commissioners.
Maintain the drug files on pharmacy stock control systems including entering new items, inactivating old pack sizes/discontinued items, supplier and contract management. Ensure all relevant changes are reflected in electronic prescribing system.
Investigate discrepancies with invoices for purchase orders and process invoices, credits and manage supplier off contract claims.

Act as a point of contact between patients, Trust staff and homecare providers.
Assist in the existing homecare service and contribute to the review and development of this service.
Ensure that homecare providers adhere to their contractual obligations / service level agreements and national standards.
Maintain continuing professional development to maintain registration as a Pharmacy Technician and maintain accreditation as Accuracy Checking Technician.
Act as an Accredited Checking Technician within the dispensary on a pre‑determined rota.
Participate in the late night, weekend and bank holiday rota on a rotational basis to assist a 7 day working service.
Person specification
Qualifications
* BTEC, NC & NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Service skills or GPhC recognised equivalent
* Registered as a practising Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC
* BTEC accredited checking qualification or equivalent recognised by the department or willing to work towards within 12 months of starting employment
Knowledge & Experience
* Substantial post‑qualification experience working in a pharmaceutical environment
* Experience of dispensing for discharge and medicines management
* Experience in using the JAC pharmacy computer system
* Knowledge of LEAN principles
Skills
* Demonstrates ability to motivate team performance to achieve objectives
* Good verbal communication skills both face to face and using telephones
* Ability to talk to patients, staff and other senior health care professionals
* Ability to concentrate for long periods of time and able to work under pressure
* Ability to work accurately and efficiently with good attention to detail
