Accounts Payable Clerk
Location: Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire
Salary: £26,000 £32,000
Hours: 8:00am 5:00pm, Monday to Friday

A well-established construction business is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Clerk to take ownership of the Accounts Payable function on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a hands-on role where you will manage day-to-day AP duties, oversee workflow, and drive improvements across the finance team.
About the Role You will be responsible for the full Accounts Payable process, ensuring invoices, payments and purchase orders are managed accurately and efficiently. Alongside daily AP duties, you will review existing processes, identify improvements, and implement better ways of working. This role suits someone confident, organised and proactive, who enjoys taking ownership and improving systems.
Key Responsibilities Accounts Payable Primary Focus Raising and managing purchase orders
Processing subcontractor invoices
Completing payment runs
Preparing Accounts Payable statements
Maintaining and updating Accounts Payable KPIs
Ensuring AP processes are efficient, accurate and consistent
Accounts Receivable Smaller Element Liaising with customers regarding overdue payments
Supporting basic credit control activities
Process Ownership & Improvement Taking full accountability for the Accounts Payable function
Overseeing workflow and ensuring smooth daily operations
Reviewing current ways of working and identifying improvements
Implementing changes to improve accuracy, speed and clarity
Creating simple, repeatable processes for the team
Acting as a point of escalation for AP queries
About You Strong Accounts Payable experience (Accounts Receivable helpful)
Experience within construction or subcontractor finance beneficial
Understanding of CIS for subcontractors is an advantage
Confident taking ownership and improving processes
Able to balance daily tasks with strategic thinking
Enjoys problem-solving and working in a fast-paced environment
