We require a Junior Research Administrator for 10 months to support the work of cancer prevention group at the Translational Research Institute, biomedical West wing, Centre for Life with the service development of the MSI Plus assay. Acting as the liaison between the patient community and the Clinical and Research team

Key Accountabilities

1. Support the senior clinical research administrator, providing comprehensive administrative support for relevant people, including data management and manipulation to meet the aims of the project
2. Act as first point of contact dealing directly with email and telephone enquiries from academics, trail participant, patient groups, healthcare professionals and industry stakeholders directing enquiries to appropriate team members to ensure queries are handled efficiently
3. Provide comprehensive administrative support including formatting documents, managing diaries and devising and maintaining administrative systems, support committees and meetings for the Projects, including organising dates, booking rooms and catering, drafting agendas, circulating papers and taking minutes
4. Support internal and external events related to the Projects, liaising with external stakeholders as required.
5. As required, provide support for other events including international conferences and patient events
6. Support the organisation of internal and external meetings (national and international), workshops, online meetings and patient days. This includes maintenance of contact lists, contacting delegates, preparing and circulating agendas and associated documentation, taking minutes and ensuring follow up actions are carried out As well as raising national and international awareness of the studys impact
7. Organise, maintain and continuously review office procedures to ensure support to the project team is maintained effectively. This will include ensuring an efficient and accessible filing system is in place meeting study audit requirements, and maintaining databases. Support the maintenance of project and study records to be GCP compliant
8. Maintain the website with information on calls, events and activities, including blogs and twitter feeds as appropriate
9. Maintain mailing lists for effective communication with key groups of colleagues

The Person

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

10. Proven experience of establishing, reviewing and monitoring administrative and operational systems in a research support environment
11. Experience in communication with people affected by genetic/genomic disorders
12. Strong interpersonal skills required to communicate both in person and in writing
13. Excellent planning and organisational skills. Experience of data processing, analysis and database management
14. Able to work as part of a team, developing and maintaining close and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
15. Proven ability to adopt an active approach to problem solving
16. Numerate, with good IT skills and able to manipulate and analyse information to meet the needs of the projects aims
17. Ability to handle large volumes of work to tight deadlines, whilst maintaining strong attention to detail

Desirable

18. Experience of working in an international multi-disciplinary environment, and/or understanding of the cultural and political barriers to healthcare implementation
19. Experience of working within the University and NHS and with patient organisations (preferably rare disease patient organisations)
20. Ability to work in a wide range of settings and with a wide range of stakeholders
21. Understanding of the communication issues relating to collaborative projects
22. Advanced IT skills, including Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust patient systems and Northern Genetics Clinical7 database

Qualifications

38. Grades A-C in English Language and Mathematics GCSE (or equivalent) or vocational qualifications
