Through work experience, studying, training and development (both practical and vocational), complete a 3 year course of study, which will enable the participant to obtain a Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship standard. To carry out work allocated to a high standard and ensure it is carried out in strict compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, and any other relevant legislation covering safety in the workplace for self and others. To gain work skills, qualifications and experience to help the participant increase their confidence and experience and enable them to apply for further employment with the Council or other organisations on completion of the Apprenticeship. Be aware of and apply the Rochdale Way behaviours at all times. To learn to carry out a range of municipal highway duties across the various specialisms within the Highways Service in accordance with the RMBC’s procedures under the guidance of qualified employees suited to the current level of training and development. These could include, but are not exhaustive: Site surveys of footway & carriageway works Preparation of plans and drawings for highway improvement works Carrying out highway safety inspections Investigating and proposing solutions to flooding issues Liaising with, and ordering works through the Councils highway maintenance contractor Processing temporary and permanent road closure applications To work towards undertaking a range of technical support functions in the following highway service teams: Network Improvement, Development & Flooding Bridges, Structures & Asset Management Network Management & Road Safety Capital Programme & Delivery To receive enquires/requests for service in a courteous and customer friendly manner and, to record and direct as appropriate Learn to become familiar with a range of IT systems To punctually attend Apprenticeship programme and complete assigned work on time and to a high standard To produce, maintain and be responsible for documenting experience To take on additional responsibilities in years two and three of apprenticeship To carry out all necessary administrative work associated with departmental management requirements such as accurately completing paperwork, including electronic timesheets To liaise and work with all other apprentices as required To understand and comply with RMBC’s policies and procedures To comply with all Health and Safety policies and procedures To travel to locations within the Rochdale borough as per needs of the service To attend and fully participate in regular training and reviews with mentor and line manager To undertake additional duties in line with capabilities as required Secondary Duties To participate in Council programmes of in-service training as a trainee and when required as a trainer facilitator.
