Opportunity to join established teams providing support to qualified Dental Staff within the Child Dental Health Department on a fixed‑term 8‑month maternity contract.
The role of Registered Dental Nurse is to deliver high standards of clinical care and support to post and undergraduate clinicians under the guidance of the Senior Dental Nurse. Key responsibilities include preparing and maintaining clinical areas, managing stock of materials and equipment, and recording data in the patient administration system.

Main duties of the job
Dental nurse on a busy child dental health clinic, involved in a range of dental procedures, including local anaesthetic, inhalation sedation and General Anaesthetic.
Support the dentist during procedures and maintain adherence to trust policies and procedures.
Possess good communication skills, punctuality, and a range of admin skills.

Job responsibilities
* Provide chair‑side assistance (including patients treated under General Anaesthetic) to all grades of dental staff and students working within the dental hospital.
* Prepare all instruments, equipment, and materials required for treatment.
* Provide care and support for patients undergoing a variety of treatments.
* Give pre‑ and post‑operative instructions and advice, maintaining a high standard of patient care at all times.
* Ensure patient confidentiality is always upheld.
* Provide administrative assistance, liaising with patients and external agencies.
* Offer clinical supervision and practical training to student dental nurses and other less experienced staff daily.
* Ensure cross‑infection control, cleanliness of the department, stock levels, and equipment are well maintained.

Person Specification
Skill
* National Certificate in Dental Nursing or NVQ Level 3 in Oral Healthcare (or equivalent qualification); portfolio must be completed and signed.
* Registration with the General Dental Council.
* Ability to organise own workload.
* Good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
* IT proficiency.
* Specialist DN Skills (e.g., endo/implant, oral surgery and sedation).
* Post‑certificate qualifications (e.g., radiology, sedation or orthodontics).
Knowledge
* Cross infection procedures.
* Health & Safety issues.
* CPD.
* Clinical Governance issues.
* Maxillo‑Facial experience.
