Quantity Surveyor
* Location: Greater Manchester
* Day Rate: £250 - £400
* Contract: Ongoing Project Assignment
* Start: ASAP
Join the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service as a Quantity Surveyor and play a pivotal role in delivering an exciting programme of capital works across the region. This includes new build schemes, refurbishments, and station decarbonisation projects aimed at setting a new, modern standard for fire stations.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Manage cost planning, budgeting, and financial reporting across multiple capital projects.
* Prepare cost plans, valuations, payment notices, variation assessments, and final accounts.
* Support procurement processes, tender evaluations, and contract preparation.
* Monitor progress on site, assessing contractor delivery against programme and budget.
* Lead commercial input throughout all RIBA stages (0–7).
* Manage change control processes and advise on cost impacts.
* Liaise with legal and insurance advisors on contractual matters.
* Identify risks, support value engineering activities, and ensure best value for money.
* Collaborate closely with the project team and external consultants.
What We’re Looking For
* Strong experience in multi-site capital works construction projects, ideally in the public sector.
* A solid understanding of RIBA Plan of Work, procurement routes, and construction delivery.
* Ability to prepare valuations, payment notices, variation assessments, and final accounts.
* Experience with JCT and NEC contracts.
* Excellent stakeholder communication skills and the ability to work across diverse teams.
* Strong commercial judgement and ability to identify risks early.
* Confident in leading QS activities from concept design through to handover and in-use stages.
