Starting salary: £45,367 rising to £50,877 per annum through annual increments being paid each year (pro rata for part time applicants)

Contract type: Permanent

The role
Ready to take the lead in protecting Wales' environment from industrial impacts? We're looking for a dynamic and driven leader to manage our Industry Regulation Team in South Central Wales.

In this high-impact role, you'll guide a team of expert officers regulating some of the most complex and high-risk industrial sites in the region. You'll have the opportunity to influence environmental performance across a diverse range of sectors-supporting innovation, ensuring compliance, and driving real change in how industry interacts with our natural world.

You'll manage and develop a team of 12, oversee site inspections, liaise with stakeholders from multinational companies to local communities, and contribute directly to reducing emissions and tackling climate change. This is your chance to combine technical expertise with strategic leadership-and help shape a greener future for Wales.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

Successful external applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. We aim to make offers of appointment within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.

What you will do
Manage and develop a large team of Regulatory and Enforcement Officers and be fully accountable for their performance, contribution, development and well-being, health and safety.
Using technical specialist knowledge of industry, waste and enforcement, prepare and present your teams' annual work plan and production of associated performance and assurance reports.
Be responsible for regulatory decisions at place level, ensuring adherence to the Regulators' Code and our Regulatory Principles.
Develop and maintain effective and influential customer relationships (internal and external) at a senior level (e.g. Director level engagement within multinational companies).
Contribute your technical knowledge and stakeholder management experience to risk-based decision making by the team and the wider business.
Be responsible for delegated team and project budgets.
Respond to and manage team's response to incidents and complaints.
Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills
In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method .
Experience of line management.
Experience of relevant work areas.
Coaching and mentoring skills.
Experience of managing contentious issues and community liaison and public engagement activities.
Strong organisational, time management and interpersonal skills.
Good understanding of commercial business processes and pressures.
Ability to communicate effectively with regulated business and the public, explaining complex issues and gaining support by influencing.
Extensive knowledge and experience of regulatory processes (including enforcement) and incident management.

Welsh language level requirements
Essential: Level A1 - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh)
