Role Responsibilities Social Work Assessments & Interventions Conduct thorough assessments to identify the needs and risks for children and families, ensuring interventions are person-centred and effective. Provide short-term interventions and refer clients to appropriate services for longer-term support. Undertake comprehensive risk assessments as part of safeguarding procedures to protect children from harm and neglect. Maintain detailed and accurate case records in line with statutory requirements and Council standards. Manage complex caseloads, ensuring timely responses to referrals and appropriate follow-ups. Supervision & Mentorship Guide and supervise junior social workers and assistants, providing feedback and support to help them grow professionally. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and high standards within the team. Ensure junior staff adhere to relevant legislation and uphold excellence in social work practice. Collaboration & Multi-Agency Working Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including healthcare, education, police, and housing, to provide holistic support to children and families. Engage in multi-agency meetings, such as safeguarding meetings and care planning discussions, to ensure effective action plans are in place. Build and maintain partnerships with external agencies to ensure seamless service delivery. Safeguarding & Risk Management Lead safeguarding investigations and ensure that children at risk are protected through appropriate interventions. Develop and implement care plans, ensuring they are tailored to individual needs and compliant with statutory guidelines. Adhere to Care Act and Children Act requirements to maintain a high standard of care and protection for children and families. Leadership & Service Improvement Lead by example in upholding ethical and legal standards in social work practice. Drive service development by identifying areas for improvement and actively participating in strategy development. Assist in the creation of policies and procedures to enhance service delivery and client outcomes. Administrative & Reporting Duties Keep precise, up-to-date records using the Council's electronic case management system. Prepare comprehensive reports for court hearings and other official documentation requirements. Ensure administrative tasks are completed to a high standard, supporting overall service efficiency. Person Specification Essential: Social Work Degree and current registration with Social Work England (SWE). Significant experience in children's services as a qualified social worker. In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Care Act and Children Act. Proven ability to manage complex cases and lead social work teams effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working within a multidisciplinary environment. Ability to work well under pressure, meeting tight deadlines and balancing multiple priorities. Desirable: Post-qualification experience in areas like child protection. Practice educator qualification or experience in mentoring junior social workers. Familiarity with local Barnsley services and agencies. Demonstrated ability to drive service improvement initiatives.
