About the Role
Are you a Finance Professional looking for a challenging and rewarding role in a prestigious and complex organisation? The University of York is seeking a highly motivated Accountant to join our Finance team.
By design this role is suitable for a finance generalist; this position will work across both Management Accounting and Financial Accounting to support where colleagues are working on a Finance/HR system implementation. As such, this would suit a finance professional seeking to broaden their professional experience or looking to move into the Higher Education sector. On a day‑to‑day basis this role may include:
* Preparation of financial reports and reconciliations
* Processing adjustments through the accounting system
* Review and reconciliation of funding body grants, tuition fees and other income
* Assist senior Professional Services / Faculty finance staff in the production of financial projections, and monthly variance analysis
* Liaise and provide information to the Group’s financial auditors.
Department
The Finance Department provides a key service to the University of York including:
* The provision of high quality management information to support decision making
* Efficient transaction services for our students, staff, departments and external stakeholders
* A professional purchasing service for departments, ensuring we achieve value for money
* A reporting and control framework to support all the University’s financial activities
Currently the University is replacing its Finance/HR system to Workday as part of a wider transformation project; this is a key priority for the Finance Department. This 12‑month position has become available to support both the Management Accounting and Group Financial Accounting teams as existing colleagues spend time on the implementation of the new ERP system.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed
* AAT qualified or working towards accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or relevant experience
* Preparation of financial reconciliations
* A high degree of attention to detail and solution orientated
* Knowledge and understanding of accounting practices and procedures used in large complex organisations
* Good understanding of financial processes, procedures and regulations
* Level 3 qualification. (Qualifications at this level include A levels. Please view the full list.) We also welcome applicants with equivalent non‑UK qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
* Taking ownership for / hold a significant role in the delivery of distinct pieces of work e.g. leading a project
* Gather, analyse, interpret and report complex data/information
* Use digital technologies including Google applications and/or Microsoft Office
* Communicate effectively in verbal and written formats, including the use of a variety of digital tools
