As a Mechanical Technician, you will be part of a multi-disciplined diagnostic team responding to breakdowns and completing planned maintenance while working 12-hour days. You will support the department's Shift Management team (Production and Engineering) to ensure Safety, Quality, and Production Plans are all met. The team may be requested to assist across-site as required to support the business objectives. Individuals are expected to work in all departments, gaining a working knowledge of each, utilizing the experience of the local team.

Role & Responsibilities of the Mechanical Technician
* Report to the Team Leader Engineering on all matters regarding the maintenance and operation of all plant and equipment.
* Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance activities on all aspects of plant and equipment on site.
* Self-organise and prioritise work requirements, managing these accordingly under the guidance of the team leader, section engineer, or shift manager.
* Assist in developing maintenance practices and procedures to improve and maintain the plant and equipment.
* Record work carried out via CMMS, pick up work, book out spares, and update the team on issues.
* Ensure all legal requirements relating to systems are met and records are kept.
* Advise the team leader or section engineer of any spares used or required.
* Ensure all team members adhere to procedures and systems of working, reporting any deviations. Participate in creating RA SWP & JTDs.
* Complete point of work risk assessments.
* Provide continuity of cover on site during sickness and holidays.
* Maintain equipment to required standards, liaising with engineering department members as needed.
* Reduce/eliminate waste from department operations.
* Assist in all aspects of the company as requested.
* Deputise for the Team Leader.
* Supervise/organise a multi-skilled workforce.
* Issue permits and undertake on-the-job training.
* Engage in training to acquire new skills and utilize training provided.
* Participate in plant improvement projects.
Requirements for the Mechanical Technician
* A recognized mechanical engineering apprenticeship (preferably HNC, but minimum ONC level or equivalent).
* Strong plant engineering knowledge and experience of industrial systems such as hydraulic systems, pumps, drives, gearboxes, heavy machinery, water cooling systems, conveyor systems, and dust extraction systems.
* Self-starting individual capable of leading a small team.
* Ability to work with cross-functional groups.
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to fault find methodically to root cause and rectify issues.
* Experience with permit systems or knowledge of their operation.
* Customer-focused attitude with good prioritization skills considering current resources.
