Freelance Tunnelling Geotechnical Engineer – 6‑Month Contract West Yorkshire 6‑Month Contract (Potential Extension) Freelance / Outside IR35 (subject to assessment) Start: ASAP We’re currently supporting a leading engineering contractor in their search for an experienced Tunnelling Geotechnical Engineer to join their team on a 6‑month freelance basis in West Yorkshire. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a major infrastructure programme and play a key role in technical delivery. Key Responsibilities Provide geotechnical and tunnelling engineering expertise across design and site phases Review and interpret ground investigation data and assessments Support the design of temporary and permanent works Offer technical input during construction, problem‑solving ground‑related issues Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders Ensure compliance with relevant standards, safety requirements, and project specifications Experience & Skills Required Proven experience in tunnelling and geotechnical engineering Strong understanding of ground conditions, soil/rock behaviour, and GI data Experience with tunnel design methodologies and modelling software Ability to operate effectively within multi‑disciplinary project teams Chartered or working toward chartership (ICE, CIWEM, or similar) – desirable What’s on Offer Competitive freelance day rate Opportunity to support a high‑profile infrastructure project Collaborative project environment with strong technical challenges Hybrid working may be considered, but site presence will be required If you’re an experienced Tunnelling/Geotechnical Engineer looking for your next contract opportunity, I’d love to hear from you.
