Job Summary

As a key member of the Ground Engineering Flight (GEF) at RAF Coningsby, you will be employed with Mechanical Transport Maintenance Section (MTMS) here you will be conducting and supervising vehicle maintenance and fault finding on a wide and varied MT fleet at RAF Coningsby. Also once qualified you will also be carrying out Vehicle Inspections to DVSA standard. This includes recording all work on the current military operating system (JAMES).

This post advertised is 37 hours per week.

Job Description

The successful applicant will be employed within the Mechanical Transport Maintenance Section (MTMS) at RAF Coningsby. You will be employed within a team with 4 other civil service supervisors required to mentor junior tradespersons (qty 6 on a rotation basis) towards completion of their Engineering NVQ Level 3. This will be carried out whilst they complete routine maintenance, rectification and when required modifications on a varied HGV fleet comprising of Aircraft Refuelling Tankers, Aircraft Towing Tractors, Airfield Snow Clearing Equipment and MHE. Once suitably qualified you will also carry out Vehicle Inspections to DVSA standard across the MT fleet. On a rotating shift basis, there will be a requirement to be on call out of hours, to provide supervision, direction and guidance to the duty fitter (Weekdays 1700 – 0730, Weekends 24 Hrs a day on a 1 in 5 week rotation). Maintenance experience on current in service green fleet vehicles is highly desirable. A good knowledge of computing and how to locate and interpret Policy documents online is essential.

Person specification


* Mentoring of Junior Tradesmen - A good trade knowledge and ability to carry out on the Job training is essential.
* Diagnosis and repair of vehicles - Must have the technical ability to use diagnostic test equipment.
* Carrying out vehicle inspections to a high standard – Good Knowledge of the HGV Inspection Manual.
* Servicing of vehicles to a high standard – Understand and embrace preventative maintenance.
* Participation in call out and breakdown rota – Must be within a 1 hour response time to RAF Coningsby for out of hours call outs.
* Keep the work area clean and tidy – Maintain a high standard of engineering hygiene and comply with current engineering quality standards.
* Have good written and oral communication.
* Complete job reports clearly and accurately – The ability to use computer systems is essential for inputting data and co-ordinating of maintenance work packages, in addition to completing all mandatory on-line training.

Licences

Driving licence essential- Road testing of vehicles would be needed

Qualifications

City and Guild / NVQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Mechanics / Technologies is Essential.

Driving licence essential.

Cat C driving licence desirable.

5 years HGV Inspection/maintenance experience desirable.

Experience on using JAMES desirable.

ADR Licence desirable.
