We are looking for motivated and caring Healthcare Support Workers to join a dedicated Paediatric Team in our Paediatric Outpatient department.

We are looking for enthusiasm, drive, and passion where the delivery of outstanding levels of care can be nurtured.

You will have excellent communication skills and the flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of Children and their Families whilst maintaining a safe environment.

You will be motivated and committed to delivering high quality care to patients in a busy and fast paced area.

You will work as part of a team to provide high quality, safe and child centred care.

The successful candidate will be efficient, reliable, and able to work using their own initiative whilst being part of a team. You will be dedicated to assisting in the delivery and the development of an excellent service.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for providing a range of personal care for patients and a range of clinical duties under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional.

Healthcare Support Workers work independently performing a number of clinical duties/tasks following training and meeting competency within role as per policy and procedure. The successful candidate will be required to work over 6 sites within the Wigan and Leigh area.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties of a Healthcare Support Worker

We know that no two days are the same and it's hard to fit everything on one page, however, the following are an example of the duties our Healthcare Support Workers do every day in their role.

1. Assist patients with the provision of washing, dressing, personal care, beverages and/or meals.

2. Assist qualified nursing and medical staff where requested.

3. Communicate with all members of the team to maintain a good service provision.

4. Ensure that all patients are able to meet their hygiene needs, providing a level of assistance appropriate to the individual.

5. Prepare and support the patient appropriately during any activity that is to be undertaken.

6. Alert the registered nurse where you notice any changes in the patient's health and well-being or any possible risks.

7. Undertake observations/tasks such as patient temperature, weighing, fluid checks as directed

8. Ensure effective use of material resources/supplies within the ward/unit in consultation with senior staff.

9. Assist with the general cleaning and re-stocking of resources where appropriate as well as cleaning and preparing patients beds.

10. Contribute to own personal development and take an active part in learning opportunities.

11. Undertaking phlebotomy on children of a variety of ages, with appropriate training.

12. Contribute in the role of QB tester on a rotational basis.

Qualifications

Essential criteria Effective level of numeracy and literacy skills NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care Effective communication skills - written and verbal

Skills

Essential criteria Ability to deal with people from all backgrounds Effective team player Effective customer service skills Proven ability to demonstrate compassion/empathy/help others Proven ability to remain calm under pressure

Desirable criteria Experience of QB testing

Knowledge

Essential criteria Effective understanding of confidentiality

Essential criteria Proven ability to be flexible in your approach Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation
